County presents first round of Community Grants Funding

In conjunction with The County Community Foundation (CCF), the County presented 10 community recipients with grants from the 2017 Municipal Community Grants Program.

Program funding, aimed at improving the well-being and quality-of-life of the community and its residents through financial assistance to non-profit community based organizations, was the first to be administered by the CCF.

“County Council established this partnership with the CCF with the intent of making the Municipal Community Grants Program more efficient, and improving the alignment of our two organizations’ community-building support programming,” said Mayor Robert Quaiff. “It’s exciting to see the first results of that partnership come to fruition. Each and every one of these initiatives is incredibly deserving of our support.”

The CCF administers two streams of grant applications: grants up to $5,000 in cash and in-kind; and, in-kind grants of $1,000 or less. For those grants that the CCF administers, it tops up municipal funding by an additional 25 per cent. The municipality continues to manage applications for grants of more than $5,000.

“The County Community Foundation is pleased to partner with the municipality in providing these grants to local organizations which support important projects by and for our community,” says Joan Pennefather, President of the CCF. “As with other grant programs which we manage, these grants demonstrate the dedication and care of so many PEC volunteers and residents.”

The application period for this round of funding closed in September. The next round of funding will open on-line on January 26th with applications
closing on March 3rd.

An Information Night is set for Monday, Feb. 13 at 4 p.m. at the Foundation Office in The Edward Building, Picton. The program is intended for non-profit, community-based organizations that provide programs and services in the areas of: arts, culture, heritage, recreation, environment, health and human
services.

The municipality initiated the program to promote the self-sufficiency of community non-profit groups and programs by encouraging those in receipt of funding to become self-supporting.
