Alternatives for Women CHEERS! supporters

Two short months ago Alternatives for Women reached out to businesses and residents of Prince Edward County for support in the completion of Vi’s House through a Go Fund Me campaign.

In just 60 days, the community came forward with $50,000.

“Just as we approached the final stage of renovating Vi’s House, our new transitional second stage shelter with emergency bed, one of our funding streams fell through,” said Leah Morgan, executive director. “We made it known to the community that we could not complete this very important project on our own, and the community stepped up in ways we were not expecting.”

AFW, she says, CHEERS! and extend most sincere gratitude to those who donated or volunteered, and who continue to support the agency.

“We would not be able to move forward with our dream of providing more transitional units and an emergency bed to the victims of domestic violence in our community, without your contributions,” said Morgan.

“We would especially like to thank the following individuals, groups, and businesses for helping us reach our $50,000 goal:
– Ladies on the Rocks for raising $12,000 (so far) with their incredible calendar sales.
– The Breweries that participated in the Skirts for Shelter Challenge: Parson’s, Prince Eddy’s, Sand & Pearl Oyster Bar, Midtown Brewery & Gillingham’s.
– Local Artist Rhonda Nolan for creating beautiful t-shirts and donating the proceeds.
– Lorie Kehoe and the rest of the committee who organized a successful barbecue.
– Cressy United Church for organizing a Mocktail Fundraiser.
– The committee members who organized the Give Her Shelter Campaign and the Short Term Accommodations that participated.
– And the numerous individuals who donated thousands of dollars to this very worthy cause.

Morgan also CHEERS! Wellington Home Hardware for organizing an appliance registry for the items needed at Vi’s House. The appliances are being heavily discounted and AFW supporters can purchase an item, or contribute any amount toward an item on the list.

“To everyone who donated funds, clothing, furniture, or their time, we are so grateful and touched by your generous support!”
