Apply for Stark Family Fund grants

The Community Foundation for Kingston and Area invites charitable organizations from Prince Edward County to apply for grants from The Stark Family Fund before the January 13 4:30 p.m. deadline.

The fund was established to assist community groups and charities in the Village of Bloomfield and Prince Edward County in the areas of: Animal Welfare, Arts & Culture, Education, Health and Social Services.

In 2013, the Stark Family Fund provided more than $35,000 in grants for projects benefitting Prince Edward County, such as furniture for the new Hospice Prince Edward, children’s pool equipment for the Prince Edward Fitness and Aquatic Centre, a foot care chair for The Prince Edward County
Community Care for Seniors Association, and funding to transport local school children to an engaging classical concert organized by the Prince Edward County Music Festival.

Since its inception in 2002, the Stark Family Fund has provided 107 grants totalling more than $480,000 to a range of local organizations. From 1879 to 2001, the five Stark sisters Leata, Keitha, Sylvia, Ival and Ruth and their spouses supported the residents of the village of Bloomfield and were well known there, as well as throughout the County of Prince Edward. They decided to establish a fund from their accumulated estates to support the needs to the local community.

“Grant applications from any registered charity in the County to support projects in any of the fund’s focus areas are encouraged to apply,” said Vera Kettnaker, the Foundation’s Grant Coordinator.

Letters of Intent for the Stark Family Fund Grant program are due at the Foundation’s offices at 165 Ontario Street #6, Kingston ON K7L 2Y6, by 4:30 pm on Monday, January 13th 2014. Additional information and
the letter of intent forms are available at www.cfka.org. All Letters of Intent will be reviewed by an independent granting committee from Bloomfield and Prince Edward County.
