Coming up for County seniors

Drop in Coffee Mornings are held Tuesdays and Thursdays for the month of January. These informal gatherings for seniors 60+ will be held at the Community Care for Seniors office, 74A Kings Street, Picton from 9:30am – 10:30am. Drop-in for coffee to chat, play games, meet new and old friends plus learn about the County Seniors Centre programs. This event is free and all seniors are welcome. Jan. 15 – Presentation: Learn about about POAs & Wills with Community Advocacy & Legal Centre – Jan. 15, 2019 at the Athol Town Hall. The County Seniors Centre is partnering with the Community Advocacy and Legal Centre (CALC). Lisa Turik, Staff Lawyer will discuss services the centre provides to seniors as well as wills and Power of Attorney. This free talk will be held Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2019 at 1:30pm at Athol Town Hall. Jan. 16 – Seniors Luncheon Social in Milford – Enjoy good food and conversation with old and new friends on Wednesday, Jan. 16th at noon. The menu for this Seniors Luncheon Social features homemade soup, beef and vegetable stew, potatoes, vegetable, warm dessert, bread and butter, coffee and tea for $10 per person. There will be a presentation from Lorraine Ross of Alzheimer Society about dementia. Reserve by the Tuesday prior at noon, 613-476-7493. Take-out & delivery available. Sponsored by The Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors Association and will be held in Milford Town Hall.

Jan. 18 – Fitness 4 Seniors – starts Jan. 18 at the Wellington Town Hall (10 weeks). Fitness 4 Seniors is a gentle fit class with a focus on flexibility, range of motion and body strength. This class will be led by certified fitness instructor Tracy Powers on Fridays at the Wellington Town Hall. The sessions will focus on flexibility, range of motion, and body strength. All fitness levels are welcome. Space is limited and it is recommended to sign up early. A membership is required to join the fitness class. Jan. 18 – VON Falls Prevention Program – new session starting on January 18. The Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) offers the Seniors’ Exercise & Falls Prevention program. The Ontario government thinks that falls prevention is important enough to fund this program. For that reason the VON can offer the program free of charge. It is a 12-week program that includes an innovative educational component and also includes balance and strength exercises. It will be held in the office of The Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors Association located at 74A King Street in Picton. Classes will be held Fridays from 1:00pm to 3:00pm.
