Our Mayor is not doing anything out of the ordinary by stepping away from his municipal duties to run in the provincial election. This is done on many occasions across our province, in many communities. I find it encouraging to see people with real political experience running for the positions of either MPP or MP – rather this than having radio and TV personalities who are only too used too seeing and hearing themselves and not the public.

    Thanks for the update.

I see no problem taking a leave to explore another “job”. Certainly can and does happen in the public and private sector, sometimes. Of course it is dependent on the “job” and responsibilities associated with it. This situation is for a brief time and can enrich the person’s experience that may benefit him if he chose to return to being mayor. It is a free society and we should support a person who is motivated to look at a different position. Some complain that Council has too
many members, so here’s a chance to reduce even though it is temporary!
I do agree however, that it is “awkward” that he is running for the party that has policies that he and some residents have been objecting to.

  4. Emily says:

What was the outcome at Council last night when a citizens deputation requested that the granting of a leave of absence to the Mayor be denied?

  5. Chuck says:

I cannot recall a Mayor taking a leave of absence in order to seek new employment.

  6. Dave says:

No leave MR Mayor you are in or out,if you wish to run again for mayor do so in the next municipal election.
