Philanthropy is alive and well in Prince Edward County – and was honoured with awards from the local chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

Lanny and Catharine Huff.

Re/Max Quinte was named Outstanding Corporation and Lanny and Catharine Huff received the award for Outstanding Philanthropist.

Nominees and the organizations that nominated them gathered in Kingston Wednesday night to ‘Celebrate Philanthropy: From the Heart’ at the association’s south eastern Ontario chapter annual gala for the National Philanthropy Day Awards.

The event recognized 24 nominees for commitment to making a difference in communities, and culminated in naming an honoree in each category.

Re/Max Quinte’s philanthropy award was presented for an outstanding corporation of 99 employees or fewer. The real estate company was nominated by the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation. Through its popular Teeing Up for Health Care golf classic, realtors at Re/Max Quinte have raised more than $160,000 toward their $250,000 commitment to medical needs at PECMH.

The Huffs, also long-time supporters of the hospital, were nominated by Dianne Spencer, of Loyalist College for their many contributions to the college, including the sponsorship in 2013 of the Automotive Centre, named in honour of their son, the late Peter F. Huff.

The winners’ names will be forwarded to the AFP International Awards ceremony.

The AFP South Eastern Ontario chapter serves communities between Brockville and Trenton and the communities in between. It provides members with networking and learning opportunities to support high standards in fundraising. The world-wide organization has 33,000 members in 244 chapters.
