County’s mayor to be roasted in fundraiser for Regent

Out-going Prince Edward County Mayor Robert Quaiff has agreed to be roasted by some of his peers as part of a fundraising event for the Regent Theatre’s 100th Anniversary.

The event is being organized by the Picton BIA as a way to raise funds for the iconic Regent Theatre just in time for its 100th anniversary, taking place in early November.

“The timing of it all was just too good to pass up,” said Sarah Doiron, manager of the Picton BIA. “We have the election taking place on Oct. 22, and the Regent’s anniversary in early November. We thought this would be a fun way to give the mayor a send-off, while supporting the Regent, which is a cornerstone of the community. We’re so grateful that Mayor Quaiff is such a good sport.”

The events of the evening will hosted by comedy duo Lenny Epstein and Gavin North, also known as Short Attention Spa [sic].

“As Epstein is also an out-going Picton councillor, there are sure to be a few winky political jokes between roasters,” she added.

The main event will comprise of three individuals who will each have five minutes to roast the mayor – one of them being rumoured to be a family member. Finally, Quaiff will be given the last word of the evening with an opportunity to address his roasters and settle the score if need be.

The dinner event, to be held at the View Restaurant at the Picton Golf and Country Club Saturday, Oct. 27, costs $75 per person and includes dinner, dessert and coffee, as well as the comedy line-up for the evening.

Tickets can be purchased online at or at the Regent Theatre box office starting Monday, Oct. 1, 2018.
