It was a wild show down to the finish line with 97 Stock Cars dialed in for the final 2019 championship points night at Brighton Speedway, Saturday night.

Sandercock scores 7th Late Model championship
It was a tense action-packed night with No. 57 Charlie Sandercock claiming his seventh Vanderlaan Building Products Late Model Division championship. It took No. 5 Steve Baldwin no time at all to move up into first from his sixth starting position in the 35-lap event. Once in the lead, Baldwin took off and on to victory for the first time this season. Try as he might to catch the 5 there wasn’t enough time and Sandercock took home second, No. 7 Adam Nayler third, No. 29 Phil Potts fourth and No. 46 Brandon Mowat fifth.

With a battle to the finish, newly crowned 5-time champion No. 87 Andrew Hennessy fought off the 2018 Memorial winner No. 91 Kraig Handley in the 50 Lap $2000 to win Danny Reid Memorial Canadian Modified race at Brighton Speedway Saturday night. Rod Henderson photo www.canadianracer.com

Hennessy reigning champion and wins coveted Danny Reid memorial
The OilGARD Anti-Rust Canadian Modifieds competed in their crown jewel event Saturday as they raced 50 laps in memory of former driver Danny Reid who passed away while competing in the division in May of 2005. Thunder Stock driver No. 85 Austin Reid paced the field of 16 Canadian Modifieds in his grandfather’s K5 car in a touching tribute.

Polesitter No. 87 Andrew Hennessy established clear dominance even as he went wheel to wheel with 2018 Memorial winner No. 91 Kraig Handley. Hennessy put the hammer down rolling into a clear victory and securing his 5th championship in the division which he dedicated to his late Crew Chief and mentor the late Bill Munro, who he noted always wanted the two victories to coincide. Handley earned a hard fought second, No. 12 Adam Whaley third, No. 1 Shawn Gregory fourth and No. 29 Rich Sanders fifth.

Purchase is the champ again
No. 53 Wade Purchase scored his second consecutive Brighton Automotive Thunder Stock championship Saturday night.

During the 25-lap main event, No. 03 Justin Ramsay strong armed his way up into the lead from his 13th starting position and never looked back until he realized No. 48 Adam Wells had also hustled his way up from mid-pack. For the final 5 laps the pair treated fans to a thrilling back and forth affair. Wells charged to victory lane leaving Ramsay to settle for second. Purchase was third, No. 92 Adam Turner fourth and No. 72 Doug Anderson fifth.
