Driver grazed cyclist, charged with impaired

A driver who grazed a cyclist on West Lake Road Sunday has been charged with impaired driving.

Officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Prince Edward detachment were dispatched at about 6 p.m. to Cty Road 12 near West Lake. A cyclist reported his bicycle had been grazed by the side mirror of a passing vehicle. The cyclist was still mobile and was not hurt. While responding to the bicycle incident, the officers were dispatched to a disturbance call at a Cty Rd 12 residence.

At that scene, the investigating officers determined a family dispute had occurred. One of the involved persons had just arrived home and was the driver of the vehicle that had come in contact with the bicycle moments earlier.

A 30-year-old Hallowell man has been charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Operate Over 80mgs and Fail to Stop at the Scene of an Accident under the Criminal Code of Canada.

He is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice Picton October 18, 2017 to answer to the charges.
