FEB 2 – Seniors Support TV Show – Watch a new edition of the show “Seniors’ Support” only on TVCogeco at 7pm on Tuesday, Feb. 2nd . The topic covers services provided by Community Advocacy & Legal Centre (CALC) and also information on Wills & Power of Attorney. This show is co-produced by the executive directors of Prince Edward Community Care and Community Care for South Hastings. FEB 3 – Seniors Luncheon Social in Picton – Seniors are welcome to attend Prince Edward Community Care’s Seniors Luncheon Social in Picton at the Beck and Call Restaurant at 252 Main Street on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016. Homemade soup, chopped beef with onion gravy, mashed potatoes, vegetables, coleslaw, bread and butter, apple pie, coffee and tea is for $10 per person. Reserve your place by the Tuesday prior at 12 noon by calling 613-476-7493. Reservations only. Space is limited so call early. Take out and deliveries available to housebound seniors who live in or near Picton.

FEB 8 – Community Care Office Reopens – The Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors Association is moving to 74A King Street in Picton. The move will give Community Care more space for programming and the new location is surrounded by free municipal parking. The business offices in The Armoury will be closed February 1 to 5th for moving. The phone will still be answered and off-site programs will not be affected. FEB 8 -20 – Thrift Shop Jewellery Silent Auction – Looking for a unique gift? Thanks to the generosity of donors Prince Edward Community Care’s Thrift Shop receives the most amazing jewellery donations and offers them at a Silent Auction. These items are on display at 153 Main St., Picton. Bidding starts on Monday, Feb. 8th at 1pm and closes at 2pm sharp on Saturday, Feb. 20th. 100 per cent of the funds raised support programs for seniors in Prince Edward County. www.communitycareforseniors.org

FEB. 15 – The Prince Edward Community Care office will be closed for Family Day, Monday, Feb. 15, reopening Tuesday, Feb. 16th at 9am.
Community Care’s Thrift Shop will also be closed for Family Day, reopening Tuesday, Feb. 16 at 10 am.

Prince Edward Community Care’s Walking Program is cancelled on two dates in February. The Walking Program at CML Snider Elementary School and at PECI in Picton is cancelled for Monday, Feb. 15th and Monday, Feb. 29, 2016. MARCH 1 – INCOME TAX help begins – Community Care is once again completing income tax returns for seniors who live in Prince Edward County. If you are a senior 60+ whose single income is $30,000 or lower or whose household income is $40,000 or lower, you may be eligible for the program. Volunteers have been trained by Canada Revenue Agency to complete Income Tax Returns for eligible clients. Volunteers do not complete income tax and benefit returns for: deceased persons, bankrupt individuals; for those with more than $1000 of investment income; for individuals with capital gains/losses; or for people with business or rental income and expenses. There is no charge, donations are accepted. Home visits can be arranged for seniors who are shut-in. For information call 613-476-7493.

MARCH 8 – Wii Bowling League resumes – The Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors Association has a bowling league and is accepting names for the next session that starts on March 8th. Seniors can enter a team of four or sign up as an individual and you’ll be assigned to a team. Wii bowling is not physically demanding. It is a video game by Nintendo and can be played from a standing or sitting position. People can play while sitting on a chair or walker. There are two lanes and eight people play at a time. The laughter is infectious. It’s a great way to get involved. Players use the remote control to mimic the bowling actions. Individual and team scores are kept. Your team name might appear on the trophy! Teams are being formed now. No experience is necessary. You just need to enjoy having fun and meeting new people. Ontario Energy Support Program
Do you have a high hydro bill? The Ontario Energy Support Program (OESP) is a new program that can provide help for low-income seniors 60 and over, who are eligible. An eligible household ($28,000 or less for one or two people) can receive between $30-$50 monthly credit on their hydro bill. Seniors – need a ride to medical and other appointments?
Prince Edward Community Care offers an escorted transportation program that can maximize your independence with affordable rates, punctuality, personalized service and friendly drivers. Whether you need to travel locally or out of town, this service gets you where you need to go. The volunteer waits with the client while they are in the appointment. Home Help/ Homemaking
Seniors who need help with laundry, meal preparation, light cleaning and running errands can arrange for carefully screened workers to come to the home for a reasonable fee. Telephone Reassurance Program
Prince Edward Community Care has supportive volunteers that can offer companionship, encouragement and warm friendly conversation to seniors to help alleviate loneliness and help keep people safe. Hot Meals on Wheels available from Picton to Carrying Place and everywhere in between
Delivery to the door of a hot nutritious noon-time meal is available Monday, Wednesday and Friday to seniors living in Picton, Bloomfield, Wellington, Consecon, Carrying Place and environs. This means seniors have regular contact with a volunteer to help them stay safe and well in their own home. Help around the home for seniors
Seniors who need help with chores at home, either inside or out, can call Prince Edward Community Care. The agency has carefully screened workers at reasonable rates. Help is available with snow shovelling, light and heavy housework, meal preparation, and respite – both during the day and overnight. WALKING PROGRAM – in Picton & Wellington
Seniors can walk in a controlled and safe environment at any one of the three walking program locations offered by Prince Edward Community Care for Seniors. Participants walk Monday to Friday at the Prince Edward Collegiate Institute in Picton, at CML Snider Elementary School and at the Wellington & District Community Centre. Rural Route Reassurance Program
In partnership with Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers, Prince Edward Community Care can arrange for your mail courier en route to keep a watchful eye on your home to help keep you safe. This service is free, offering added safety and security to those living in the country. Rossmore Foot Care Clinic
Prince Edward Community Care for Seniors offers a Foot Care Clinic in Rossmore. Professionally trained registered nurses provide foot care in a clinic setting. The Ameliasburgh Clinic is in addition to the clinics held in Wellington and Picton. Donate used items to Community Care’s Thrift Shop
Good used clothing for the whole family, shoes and linens can be donated at 153 Main Street in Picton, Monday 1pm – 4 pm and Tuesday to Saturday 10am-4pm. You can donate other good used household items too including sports equipment, furniture, knick knacks, seasonal items, jewellery, toys and housewares. Prince Edward Community Care’s Thrift Shop helps to reduce, recycle and enables others to reuse. 100% of the proceeds help County seniors live at home. Delivery to your door of nutritious meals for seniors
Delivery to your door of a hot nutritious noon-time meal means daily contact with a volunteer to help you stay safe and well in your own home. Prince Edward Community Care offers both hot and frozen meals to seniors and to clients of Hospice Prince Edward or the Alzheimer Society of Prince Edward County. For information on delivery days for hot and frozen Meals on Wheels or to refer someone, call 613-476-7493. Friendly Visiting Volunteers
Prince Edward Community Care for Seniors is currently looking for volunteers to take seniors on escorted walks in Picton. There is also a volunteer opportunity for a male who would be willing to visit with an older man who is interested in farming and tools. The time commitment is one hour per week.
