Health Canada wants you to have your say on palliative care

Health Canada seeks public opinion on palliative care in effort to improve services.

“Many people in the Bay of Quinte have real experience in providing end of life care for their loved ones or friends,” said Neil Ellis, Bay of Quinte MP. “I deeply encourage anyone in our riding with this form of expertise, to share their perspective with the consultation undertaken by Health Canada.”

Input, he said, will go a long way to help build up a framework for palliative care in Canada, which will support caregivers and provide more opportunities for home care in the future.

Consultation is open until July 13. Input is to be tabled in Parliament by Dec. 13, 2018.

Health Canada wants the input to support improved access to palliative care, as well as provide a common point of reference across communities throughout the nation.

The plan is to support Canadians’ access to palliative care, as well as home and community care, reducing the number of patients receiving treatment in hospitals.

Health Canada welcomes comment from palliative care providers, people living with illnesses, caregivers, and the public.
