Wednesday, April 10 will be a sea of pink at Hastings Prince Edward District School Board schools, offices and workplaces as people celebrate International Day of Pink.

The Day of Pink is the International Day against bullying, discrimination, homophobia, transphobia, and transmisogyny across the world. People are invited to celebrate diversity by wearing a pink shirt and by organizing activities in their workplaces, schools and communities.

“This is the 10th year of HPEDSB participation, demonstrating our shared belief in celebrating diversity and acceptance by wearing a pink shirt,” said Kerry Donnell, the board’s communicatons officer. “By wearing pink, we also acknowledge and support the ongoing efforts to increase awareness of bullying prevention initiatives.”

Various bullying awareness days are associated with wearing pink and are recognized throughout the school board, including February’s Pink Shirt Day, April’s International Day of Pink, November’s Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week and all year, the ‘Say and Do Nice Things’ promotions.

This year, commemorative T-shirts with logos from the past 10 years were made available with almost 1,700 sold.

“Regardless of which shade or design, the idea is to wear pink this Wednesday,” said Donnell.
