March in the sunshine marks International Women’s Day in Picton

A nice meal, a walk in warm sunshine and a movie were keys to celebrating International Women’s Day in Picton on Sunday.
Food Not Bombs PEC welcomed about 30 participants to brunch. They created colourful signs to carry in a march from the Town Hall to Tim Hortons in honour of women who have struggled throughout history. They chanted and passing vehicles showed support, then made their way back to Regent Theatre for a free screening of the inspirational film Girl Rising, presented by the PEC International Women’s Day Committee.
Food Not Bombs is a community building group that includes free meals and food sharing, crafts, family events and clothes swaps. Events are held on the first and third Wednesday of each month, along with a special community meal and clothes swap the second Sunday of each month – at the Picton Town Hall, above the firehall, on Ross Street, Picton. Wednesday meals are from 5:30-7 p.m. Sunday all-day events begin with brunch from 11 a.m. to noon.
