Municipal Community Grant requests top $450,000

Council is hearing from several applicants applying for Municipal Community Grant Requests over $5,000 during a special Committee of the Whole meeting Thursday morning.

Seventeen groups are making deputations. There are 18 requests, totalling $451,000.

The Prince Edward County Arts Council seeks $15,500 in cash and $3,000 in-kind. Funds are to be used for County Kids Read; marketing expenses for three events; the Studio Tour and $11,500 in general operations. The in-kind is for rental of the hall and kitchen for Maker’s Hand. (Has been funded since 2012. Received $17,805 last year)

The Prince Edward Point Bird Observatory seeks $7,000 cash and $300 in-kind to support the publication of the 2018 Nature Matters booklet and in-kind to support distribution and stocking in the County tourism kiosks. (No grant last year)

The Prince Edward County Chamber of Tourism & Commerce seeks $25,000 to support development of a business plan to deliver sector specific training/education; map an online “training asset inventory” to provide realtime info re: funding, courses, facilities, trainers. To create business plan for a training hub in the form of physical location to delivery courses and develop online training tools. (No grant last year)

The Community Development Council of Quinte seeks $10,000 to support and grow programs the Good Baby Box and Good Food Box programs in PEC and rent a van and provide gas for delivery of boxes. (Received $7,500 in 2017)

County FM Radio seeks $6,000 to defray costs of staff required to produce the weekday news magazine The County Grapevine. (First funded $10,000 in 2014. Received $5,000 last year)

The Prince Edward Curling Club seeks $10,000 to offset the cost of pipe to be installed during the replacement of floor used to make curling ice. This new floor will extend season by 8 weeks per year. (No grant in 2017)

The Edith Fox Life and Loss Centre seeks $10,000 to help build awareness of services offered. The majorty of funding will be used to deliver The Lambs For Children Program to County children to enhance their ability to self regulate and participate in their community. (No grant in 2017)

Festival Players seeks $15,000 to be used toward rental of Regent Theatre for 11 performances, support for training of emerging actors/youth, support of fall/holiday programing. First funded $12,000 in 2014; received $10,000 in 2017)

Glenwood Cemetery seeks $60,000 to preserve and maintain the cemetery property, graves and monuments, roads and historical buildings. (First funded $40,000 in 2012; received $60,000 in 2017)

The Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation seeks $75,000 to be used to offset costs of the fundraising campaign for the new hospital. (First funded $30,000 in 2017)

The National Air Force Museum of Canada seeks $25,000 to assist in the design and installation of a 110-seat theatre within the museum, at Trenton. (Denied funding in 2016; no application in 2017)

The Regent Theatre seeks $35,000 toward operating expenses including administrative staff. (First funded $40,000 in 2012; received $35,000 in 2017).

The Recreation Outreach Centre seeks $50,000 to support a full-time Youth Centre Program Co-ordinator. (Funded $50,000 in 2017)

The Sophiasburgh Hub seeks $75,000 to support soft (engineering etc) and hard capital costs (commercial kitchen) in developing the project in 30 per cent of the public school. (No grant in 2017)

The Hope Centre seeks $15,000 to support replacement and repair of front stairs and two wheel chair ramps to create accessibility. Demolition and removal of existing structures and replace with new structures. (No grant in 2017)

Volunteer and Information Quinte seeks $5,500 to go toward office space and salary for a Picton satellite office. (First funded $5,100 in 2015; received $3,700 in 2017)

The Wellington Cemetery Board seeks $12,000 to go toward its annual operating subsidy. (Received $12,000 in 2017)
