New County resident wins Peoples’ Choice Award

Indra Dosanjh received the Peoples’ Choice Award at the 25th annual Art in the County show.

The coveted Peoples’ Choice Award for the 25th Annual Art in the County Juried Show and Sale was presented to new County resident Indra Dosanjh, for her mixed media piece entitled ‘Being Seen’.

On hand to accept the award, presented by sponsor Elizabeth Crombie of Royal LePage ProAlliance Realty Brokerage, Dosanjh shared the story behind her artwork, which said was inspired by a found object and local scenery.

She said she is moved by the fact that an artwork’s story evolves as the piece moves from the artist to the collector. The story of Being Seen will evolve as the piece was sold on the third day of the show’s 17-day run.

With a record number of artworks on display, Art in the County Chair Sue Barclay remarked on how extraordinary it was that each of the 120 works received at least one Peoples’ Choice vote.

“That has never happened before, and speaks volumes on how the show resonated with the over 2,200 visitors,” she said.

The high attendance was especially welcome as the show was in a new location not directly accessible from Picton Main Street.

More than 400 people took in the show on Canada Day, which was free to the public thanks to the support of Elizabeth Crombie.

The community can see more of Indra’s work at her studio in Bloomfield, which is taking part in this year’s PEC Studio Tour. Studio 31 is located at 31 Wellington Main Street in Bloomfield, and is open May-October 12-4 p.m. Extended hours during the Studio Tour weekend.

  1. Thank you to every one in the County who voted for this painting. I am grateful to the Maple Mere farm where the cows and the one horse on the property continue to inspire me. More new works can be viewed at my studio, Studio31 at 31 Wellington St (Hwy 33), Bloomfield.
