Nominate a County volunteer for award recognition

The Wellings of Picton will host its third annual PEC Volunteer Recognition Awards to recognize and celebrate the countless hours of volunteerism that make up the fabric of Prince Edward County!

“We are asking the community to submit a nomination on behalf of a volunteer who you think has made a significant impact to our wonderful community,” said Rachel Henry, marketing manager at Wellings of Picton. “Daily, we see dozens of volunteers working tirelessly within our communities, and our residents have either spent countless hours of their lives in a volunteer role, or continue to do so. It is not only part of the fabric of this industry , but the fabric of Canadian seniors as well as 42 per cent of the volunteer workforce are in the 55-plus category.”

Nominations are open to those who meet the following criteria:

Nominees must have been engaged in volunteer activities for a minimum of one year to benefit the community within Prince Edward County. Those who have received compensation for their time are not eligible. Self-nominations are not eligible.

All nomination criteria must be met, and nominations received on or before the deadline of Friday, March 16th.

Judges for 2018 – Jean Algar, Lisa Zachariah and Don Roberts – were winners from the 2017 Prince Edward County Volunteer Awards. Like last year, the winner in each category will be awarded $1,000 towards the charity or not-for-profit organization of their choice.

Nomination forms can be picked up at the Wellings of Picton located at 15 Wellings Drive and at the Picton Gazette office located at 267 Main Street, Picton, until Friday, March 16th, which is the submission deadline.  Nominations are also available online at

A luncheon is set for April 18th, to celebrate volunteers who make Prince Edward County a better place to live. The public is welcome to join in, at the Wellings of Picton.

Tickets are $25. Contact Rachel Henry, (613) 707-6552 to purchase tickets.
