One arrest and charges pending in business break-ins

Prince Edward OPP have identified two male suspects in relation to a break-in at a Picton business earlier this month.

On Aug. 2, police were notified of a break-in overnight at a Main Street, Picton business. Officers investigating found there was nothing stolen, however, more than $2,500 worth of property was vandalized.

On Aug. 12, an 18-year-old Prince Edward County, resident has been charged with Break and Enter, Mischief under $5,000, destroy or damage property and Fail to comply with a probation order.

He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on Sept. 18.

Charges are pending against a second male, age 13.

On Aug. 3, officers were also called to a County Road 18 Athol business due to a report of an overnight break and enter. Investigation determined that a safe containing more than $1,000 in Canadian currency was stolen.

There are no updates to report on the second incident and the investigation is continuing.

OPP Forensic Identification Unit (FIS) members attended to both scenes for examination.

OPP are asking that anyone with information regarding this incident to contact the OPP Provincial Communications Centre at 1 – 888 – 310 – 1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1 – 800 – 222 – 8477(TIPS).
