Parrott donation gets heat at the Regent

Picton’s Regent Theatre was warm to a $20,000 grant from the John M. and Bernice Parrott Foundation to upgrade the heating system in the historic building.

“The new system will address the heating issues in the section of the building that fronts Main Street, an area that dates all the way back to the 1850s,” said Marilyn Toombs, Chair of The Regent Theatre Foundation. “With the installation of a new boiler, The Regent will no longer need to rely on a patchwork system of electric heating for the lobby and box office. A more efficient heat system will also help the theatre to both reduce hydro costs and support its commitment to using sustainable technology.

“As we look ahead to our 100th anniversary in 2018, the improvements are a further reflection of The Regent’s ongoing commitment to modernizing our infrastructure, and providing a more comfortable space for patrons, members and volunteers,” Toombs adds.

Based in Belleville, the John M. and Bernice Parrott Foundation is a philanthropic organization that has made countless donations worth millions of dollars to Bay of Quinte area programs and institutions.

“Over the years, only The Parrott Foundation has supported The Regent’s capital expenses, which makes this organization an especially valuable community partner,” said Toombs.

The not-for-profit Regent Theatre provides year-round entertainment and is the stage for a wide variety of community events. In 2016, about 33,000 residents and visitors attended various offerings on its stage and screen.
