PEC Photo Club members capture “A Moment in Time’ for Parrott Gallery show

Ten members of the Prince Edward County Photography Club will present ‘A Moment in Time’ as captured through their lenses for a special show in Belleville opening next week.

Parrott Art Gallery curator Susan Holland made contact with Prince Edward County Photography Club member Margaret Liddon last summer, asking her to curate the show.

“Susan’s main criterion was that the theme of the show tie in with DocFest, running concurrently in Belleville,” said Liddon. “‘A Moment in Time’ was born, where each photographer would document that special moment when they were in the right place, at the right time, to capture an image with impact.”

Liddon says each photographer has a varied style, and subject matter ranging from street photography to classic landscapes, from monochrome infrared imagery to large-scale colour pictorals.

The ten photographers are: Alan Jenner, Bert Jenkins, Chris Ward, Daphne Creasy, Dave Tugwood, Janice Ruggles-Bolton, Ken Liddon, Marilyn Sprissler, Mike (Monty) Montgomery and Liddon.

All ten are active members of the Prince Edward County Photography Club, more affectionately know as the Countyfotoclub.

Now in its fifth year of operation, members meet with a goal of continuous improvement in photographic abilities.

“Sometimes this involves technical things (camera’s, lights, digital editing), but more often it revolves around seeing the world in a different, more creative and artistic manner,” said Liddon. “We do this by sharing our own knowledge and areas of expertise with others in the club.”

Each meeting features presentations on various subjects to advance knowledge and to push the boundaries of individual comfort zones. Members also have monthly outings and theme challenges as well as hands-on workshops throughout the year.

“All of these are put into audio-video slideshows that are projected on our large screen at our monthly meetings in the Wellington Public Library,” said Liddon. “Everybody is welcome to attend. Best of all it is free to join.”

The show at the John M Parrott Art Gallery is set for Feb. 22 to March 21 with an opening reception Feb. 22 from 6-7:30 p.m.

The gallery is open Monday-Wednesday and Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at 254 Pinnacle St., Belleville.
