The PECI Girls hockey team came out on top of a tough battle, beating the ENSS Blue Dragon 2-1 to move on to Bay of Quinte action.

The game started off with ENSS pushing hard in the Panthers’ end, causing the defense to work hard. The Panthers had a few chances but were shut down by the ENSS defense. Panthers’ goalie Madison Rowbotham stood on her head in net making save after save. With 24.8 seconds left in the first period, Tynika WIlliams scored the first goal for the Panthers, with assists from Kendra Marion and Kim Pothier.

During the second, ENSS was looking for a goal but Rowbotham and the defence were stopping their chances of tying it up. The game went back and forth until about halfway through the period when ENSS scored the tying goal. Toward the end of the period, ENSS got a penalty but the Panthers couldn’t produce a chance to score with the player advantage.

The third period started with both teams looking for the tie-breaker, with the Panthers starting to pressure ENSS in their end. The Panthers got a penalty but managed to keep ENSS from scoring on the advantage. A minute after the Panthers’ penalty, ENSS got a penalty, which gave the Panthers a chance to score. The Panthers were getting lots of chances to score on the powerplay, which frustrated ENSS. After a tussle in front of the net Sydney Davies scored the second goal with an assist by Williams. The rest of the game was a battle but PECI managed to keep ENSS at bay to win the game.

The Panthers move on to Bay of Quinte, where they will compete against the four top teams. They play next on March 1st at 9 a.m. at the Duncan Mcdonald Memorial in Trenton.
