Prince Edward County youth ‘ROC’ the Regent with community coaches

Prince Edward County youth brought the house down at the Regent Theatre Thursday night performing music, comedy and dance with professional community coaches.

The audience knew it was in for a terrific show with the opening video produced by PECI students of Thomas Davies riding shotgun with PEC OPP Staff Sgt. John Hatch – karoke style – to arrive at the fifth annual Roc’n Revue fundraiser.

Hatch thanked the team at the Recreation Outreach Centre (ROC)
“for their leadership, the energy and enthusiasm, but most importantly, their passion for the youth in Prince Edward County. We’re lucky we have a place where youth can go and just hang out, have fun and be amongst one another.”

But the ROC is more than that, he said, noting appreciation for the great relationship the OPP has with the youth centre and we see the value of that in our community.

“It’s a place where they can learn about making good choices and gain lifeskills; where they can be exposed to positive role models and mentors. Just last week our Community Safety Officer Pat Menard gave a presentation at the ROC on cannabis called ‘Weed out The Risk’. He was talking about risks and hazards associated with cannabis. In today’s day and age, because of technology, the cell phones and the computers, with a push of a button today’s youth have infinite access to infinite information. And this can be a good thing – as long as they learn right from wrong, and good from bad and learn how to make good choices and good decisions. And the ROC does that.”

Funds raised at the show will go toward keeping the youth centre on Picton’s Main Street open and to provide program supplies, healthy snacks, transportation, educational field trips and workshops. For more information about the ROC programs and services, or to make a donation, visit www.theROC.ca
