Reserved parking for long-time champion of the County

honour-jim-dunlop-2016Before a packed house at the Wellington arena late last week, Mayor Robert Quaiff and County CAO James Hepburn honoured Jim Dunlop for being a community builder, supporter and champion of the County and all its communities.

“Jim Dunlop has been in municipal public service for many years,” Quaiff said. “I have personally known Jim for the past 40 years as a friend and a co-worker and as a fellow councillor and I sometimes refer to him as my senator.”

Dunlop was the County warden in 1997, the last before amalgamation and currently sits, for a third term, as a councillor for Wellington ward.

He first coached hockey some 50 years ago in Picton, refereed for minor hockey and 40 years ago led teams to several Ontario championships, as well as an excursion to Switzerland in 1976.

Quaiff also noted his involvement in church, the volunteer community and several service groups. In 2010 he spearheaded the $1.5 million drive needed from the community’s portion to bring Wellington its new arena.

“I am proud to be here with our CAO for this special presentation showing we have reserved your very own personalized parking spot right here at the Wellington arena.”

Dunlop was all smiles, and to great applause and cheers, said “Thank you.”

It is a facility to be proud of and serves the community well. No need to take away the fine accomplishments of Jim.

  2. Argyle says:

How about all that new lighting around the Essroc Taj Mahal ! I am sure that Councillor Dunlop will be able to find his parking spot now after those Duke night games. Just wondering who paid for the new lighting and if it was the county, how did our cash strapped council afford this? So much for transparency.

  3. Barb Proctor says:

Great tribute Jim. No question how hard you worry for your community. Congratulations to you and your family.

  4. Judy Fraser says:

A well deserved honour. Congratulations Jim.

  5. Bill Roberts says:

Couldn’t happen to a better or more deserving person. Jim Dunlop is a true community builder and champion!
