Smile cookie sales support the County’s hospital

A tasty fundraiser will help Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital raise funds for life-saving medical equipment.

Tim Hortons in Picton and Wellington have partnered with the County hospital for its annual Smile Cookie campaign Sept. 17-23. For the week, 100 per cent of sales of the $1 chocolate chunk Smile Cookies will be donated back to the hospital by Tim Hortons restaurant owners, Paul and Valerie Massey.

“The Smile Cookie campaign has continuously been successful year after year thanks to our loyal guests for their kindness and support,” said Paul Massey. “We are honoured to support the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation for the fifth year in a row with all of the proceeds raised, and to share smiles with all of our dedicated guests.”

Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation is an independent, registered charity that raises funds to help renovate and maintain the County hospital, and to purchase medical equipment such as vital signs monitors, diagnostic tools, scopes and much more.

“We are thrilled to have been selected as the recipients,” said Monica Alyea, chairperson of the PECMH Foundation. “Since partnering with Tim Hortons, the Smile Cookie program locally has raised in excess of $23,000 for priority medical equipment needs for our County hospital. It’s vital for our community to continue to ensure our County hospital is equipped with the latest technology to keep it relevant. The government does not pay for medical equipment. It has always been the responsibility of the community to fund medical equipment needs.”

The Smile Cookie campaign started in 1996 to help raise funds for the Hamilton Children’s Hospital in Ontario and has grown to become a major fundraising event at Tim Hortons restaurants.

With blue eyes and a pink smile, the Smile Cookie has become a symbol of the commitment of Tim Hortons guests and restaurant owners to strengthen communities. In 2018, more than 530 charities and organizations in communities across Canada will benefit from the Smile Cookie Campaign.
