St. Greg’s students help fill the food bank

Since January, Grade 5/6 students in Christina Ackerman’s class at St. Gregory Catholic School have collected 312 non-perishable food items for the Picton United Church County Food Bank – ranging from tea to baby food, cereal bars, canned fish, vegetables and fruit, pasta, soap and toilet paper!  This social justice project was driven by the students’ desire to make the world a better place for other kids by starting with their own community.  “We were working on the premise that even a child can make a difference in someone’s life,” Ackerman said. “Our kids have really big hearts.” They walked to the food bank last Friday to make their donation. Food Bank Director Pat Romkey told the children nearly 4,000 County residents benefit from donations.
