Sweet treat for the County’s hospital

At the presentation of sweet fundraising, from left, are: Briar Boyce, communications co-ordinator with the Foundation, Cheryl Minaker, RN and Team Leader for the Emergency Department at PECMH, Shannon Coull, executive director of PECMHF, Jessie Armstrong and Chris Armstrong, owners of LOHA Farms and Nancey Lough, RN in the PECMH Emergency Department.

The fundraising efforts for the new hospital were made a little bit sweeter Tuesday morning with a donation from LOHA Farms.

This past March, LOHA Farms, on Lucks Crossroad, in Picton participated in the Maple in the County festivities by opening up their property and sugar bush for their third year to hundreds of patrons who enjoyed a pancake breakfast and hobby farm animals. As part of the weekend, a collection was taken up for Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation’s Back the Build Campaign.

Hosts Chris and Jessie Armstrong and their children, Leah, Oaklie and Hannah Armstrong (LOHA, get it?) and many marvelous volunteers served more than 1,100 breakfasts and collected $1,600 for the new hospital efforts.

Over the past two years, LOHA Farms has raised $2,950 in support of the hospital.

Chris and Jessie presented the sweet reward Tuesday morning to staff at the hospital. Jessie works as a registered nurse in the PECMH Emergency Department and felt it was important for her young family to give back to an important asset in the community.

The Armstrong family, she said, thanks their generous patrons for braving the rainy weather to visit their farm to support their Maple in the County venture. They also thank their family, friends and volunteers who helped execute a successful weekend with a special mention going to PECMH Emergency Department nurses, Cheryl Minaker and Nancy Lough for volunteering over the course of the weekend and Andrew Burkinshaw of Morrison Point Farm who donated a portion of his summer wildflower honey sales to the cause.
