Women’s Institute helps keep bus wheels rolling in the County

WIchequeThe Prince Edward District Women’s Institute presented $5,000 toward Quinte Access bus transit serving Prince Edward County. The Institute hopes the funds, plus further donations, will help get increased service to five days a week, from four, allowing services on Mondays. Transportation Committee Representative Nancy Wood said the funds were made possible through the Women’s Institute’s annual craft show.
The service has been available here since 2007 for the elderly and people with physical disabilities. The assistance of the Prince Edward District Women’s Institute was instrumental in the start and continuation of the service which provides door-to-door transit to locations within Prince Edward County and beyond.
The program requires eligible riders to register through an application process and trips must be scheduled one day in advance. Priority is be given to riders with physical disabilities. Medical appointments take precedence over social trips.
