Youth invited to act it out with Academy for Young Actor training

Prince Edward County youth interested in acting are invited to participate in a one-of-a-kind opportunity to hone skills.

The Festival Players Academy for Young Actor Training is a two-week, professionally focused training program for participants aged 17 to 24 with preference given to those enrolled in, or currently attending a college or university level professional theatre training program. If you are a high school graduate who will be attending school in the fall, or if you are in the middle of a college or university program – you are invited to apply.

The intensive program will focus on acting, voice, speech, movement, scene study and text work examined through the lens of Shakespeare’s plays.

The Academy Director is Bruce Dow a Broadway, Toronto and Stratford award-winning actor, who will provide intensive personal training in a professional environment. Training will be enhanced by master classes from guest instructors from the Festival Players’ company, including Artistic Director Graham Abbey.

Participants should come away from the workshop with more confidence, self-esteem and the experience of having worked with professional theatre artists, in an environment that will help build skills in the performing arts.

There is no cost to participate in the program; however, participants are responsible for their own travel and housing, if required. Financial assistance is available. The Academy will run Monday, July 9th to Sunday, July 22nd. Participants will present a culminating performance at the Festival Players Studio.
