100 People Who Care PEC supports youth programs at the ROC

ROC staff Hailey Claxton, Sarah Michel and Darlene Thompson (executive director) join David Fox, on behalf of 100 People Who Care Prince Edward, and Joanne Rose, nominator, to receive this quarter’s $9,600.

A $9,600 gift from 100 People Who Care will help the Recreation Outreach Centre (ROC) provide programs, snack and taxi service to Prince Edward County youth participants.

The ROC, for more than 20 years, offers youth opportunities to develop skills, participate in learning and hands-on activities and mentoring opportunities to foster personal and social growth.

The Picton-based centre was nominated by Joanne Rose, a member of 100 People Who Care Prince Edward, which has been meeting quarterly (in person and electronically) since 2017, to choose a recipient.

With no operating costs and no paid staff, the group hands over an envelope of $100 cheques received from its membership.

Members receive an email encouraging them to nominate a local charity for consideration. Three submissions are pulled from a hat to be selected as finalists.

The ROC was a recipient of the 100 People Who Care funds in 2020. Other recipients have included the PEC Library, Hospice, the 851 Prince Edward air cadets, County Kids Read, Heal with Horses, the Wellington Auxiliary Rescue, Reaching for Rainbows, Glenwood Cemetery, Picton United Church Food Bank and the Prince Edward Learning Centre.

All interested charities should submit their information to 100peoplewhocarepec@gmail.com
