Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau completed day one of his cross-country connect with Canadians tour with stops in Belleville and Trenton, following morning and afternoon visits to Manotick, Brockville, Kingston and Napanee.

A town-hall style meeting early evening at the Empire Theatre in Belleville met with a capacity, standing-room only crowd spilling out onto the street. Some people had to be turned away.

At 8 Wing/Canadian Forces Base Trenton, he was welcomed by a 100-person honour guard, the band and Wing leadership.

Despite high winds and plummeting temperatures, an impressive ceremony was held in honour of the Prime Minister’s first visit to CFB Trenton.

During the brief military reception, Trudeau spoke with the troops and honoured them with an inspection. He spent the night at Yukon Lodge, on the base. Friday’s tour includes breakfast at the base with military members and their families (see below); and later stops in Bewdley, Peterborough, Toronto and London.
