Three new COVID-19 cases; active case load up to 27

MAY 31: Three new COVID-19 cases of COVID-19 and one recovery were reported today for an active case load of 27 in Hastings Prince Edward.

The new cases are in Prince Edward County, Quinte West and Belleville. The active cases include six in Belleville, five in each of Prince Edward County and Quinte West, four each in North Hastings and Deseronto and three in Centre Hastings.

There are six people in hospital, three in the ICU and one person using a ventilator.

MAY 30: No new COVID-19 cases were recorded and with three recoveries, the active HPE case load has dipped to 25.

Active cases include five in each of North Hastings and Belleville, four in each of Prince Edward County, Quinte West and Deseronto and three in Centre Hastings.

There are six people in hospital, three in ICU and one using a ventilator. There are no outbreaks under way.

MAY 29: One new COVID-19 case, in North Hastings, was reported along with five recoveries making the active HPE caseload drop to 28.

The active cases include six each in North Hastings and Quinte West, five in Belleville, four each in Prince Edward County and Deseronto and three in Centre Hastings.

There are now six people in hospital, three in ICU and one using a ventilator.

MAY 28: One new COVID-19 case was reported in North Hastings, along with seven recoveries, for an active case total of 32.

Active cases include seven each in North Hastings and Quinte West, six in Belleville and four each in Centre Hastings, Prince Edward County and Deseronto.

There are six people in hospital, three in ICU and one using a ventilator. All outbreaks have been declared over.

Hastings Prince Edward Health reports 50 per cent – 83,918 residents – have received a first dose of vaccination. Four per cent – 7,412 residents – has received a second dose.

MAY 27: Seven new COVID-19 were reported, with five recoveries, bringing the active case load in Hastings Prince Edward to 38.

Three new cases are in Belleville, two in Deseronto and won each in Center and North Hastings. There are now eight active cases in Belleville and Quinte West, seven in North Hastings, six in Centre Hastings, five in Deseronto and four in Prince Edward County.

There are 10 people in hospital, two in ICU and one using a ventilator.

MAY 26: Nine new COVID-19 cases and eight recoveries bring the total active cases to 37.

The new cases include six in North Hastings and one in Centre Hastings. The active cases include 11 cases in Quinte West, seven in Centre Hastings, six in North Hastings and in Belleville, four in Prince Edward County and three in Deseronto.

There are 10 people hospitalized, four in ICU and three using a ventilator.

Just one outbreak, with one case, at a Belleville workplace remains, affecting one case.

MAY 25 (includes May 24 Victoria Day): Four new COVID-19 cases were recorded – one each in Prince Edward County and Centre Hastings, and two in Quinte West.

With 11 recoveries, the active case load drops to 36, including 12 in Quinte West, nine in Centre Hastings, seven in Belleville, four in Prince Edward County and two each in North Hastings and Deseronto.

HPE Public Health reports 77,999 residents have had their first vaccine – or 46 per cent. Including second doses, 84,760 have received vaccines.

There are 10 people in hospital, four in ICU and three using a ventilator. The HPE Public Health dashboard now records 1103 total cases and 11 deaths since the pandemic began last March.

Two outbreaks remain in Belleville, the BGH Quinte Unit 5 outbreak affecting 29 caes, and a Belleville workplace outbreak affecting one case.

MAY 23: Five new COVID-19 cases were recorded, along with five recoveries, keeping the active case load total at 43.

The new cases include two in Prince Edward County, two in Quinte West and one in North Hastings. The active cases include 13 in Quinte West, 10 each in Belleville and Centre Hastings, four each in Prince Edward County and North Hastings, and two in Deseronto.

There are 11 people in hospital, six in ICU and six using a ventilator. Three outbreaks continue with 29 cases related to the outbreak at Belleville General Hospital’s Quinte 5 unit; eight cases in North Hastings and one in Belleville.

HPEPH reports 76,951 residents have received their first vaccination dose – about 46 per cent of Hastings Prince Edward residents.

MAY 22: Five new cases and 10 recoveries drop Hastings Prince Edward active COVID-19 cases to 43.

The new cases include one each in North Hastings and Belleville, and three in Quinte West. The active cases include 12 in each of Belleville and Quinte West, 11 in Centre Hastings, three each in Prince Edward County and North Hastings and two in Deseronto.

There are 11 people in hospital, six in ICU and six using a ventilator.

There was one new outbreak at a workplace in Belleville but with others being declared over, there are now three outbreaks – the one at BGH affecting 28 cases and the other two, in Belleville and North Hastings, with nine cases.

MAY 21: Four new COVID-19 cases were reported – two in Quinte West, one in Belleville and in North Hastings.

With 12 recoveries, the active case load drops to 48. Active cases include 14 in Belleville, 12 in Centre Hastings, 13 in Quinte West, four in Prince Edward County, three in North Hastings and two in Deseronto.

There are 12 people in hospital, six in ICU and six using a ventilator.

With two more declared over, outbreaks have been reduced to three – affecting 28 cases at Belleville General Hospital Quinte 5 unit and 11 cases in North and Centre Hastings.

MAY 20: Four new COVID-19 cases were reported – one in each of Centre Hastings, Quinte West, Belleville and Deseronto. With one recovery, active cases increase by one to 56.

Active cases now include 17 in each of Belleville and Centre Hastings, 13 in Quinte West, four in Prince Edward County, three in North Hastings and two in Deseronto.

There are 15 people in hospital, six in ICU and six using a ventilator (not all HPE residents).

Five outbreaks continue with 28 cases related to the outbreak at Belleville General Hospital Quinte 5 unit and 18 related to ongoing cases in North and Central Hastings, and in Belleville.

MAY 19: Ten new COVID-19 cases and 11 recoveries drop the active case load by one, to 55 in Hastings Prince Edward.

The new cases include four in Centre Hastings, three in Belleville, two in North Hastings and one in Quinte West. The active cases now sit at 17 in Belleville, 16 in Centre Hastings, 13 in Quinte West, four in Prince Edward County, three in North Hastings and one in Deseronto.

There are 16 people in hospital, six in ICU and five using a ventilator (not all HPE residents).

Five outbreaks continue with 28 cases related to the Belleville hospital Quinte 5 unit and 18 cases in Belleville, North and Centre Hastings.

Hastings Prince Edward Public Health reports 77,924 vaccine doses have been administered (71,699 to HPEC residents) and 6,225 individuals from HPEC are now fully immunized (note number of vaccines includes residents who may have received a vaccine from an out of area pharmacy).

About 43 per cent of the HPE region has received at least one dose.

Community clinics are continuing in Belleville, Quinte West, Picton, Madoc Township and Bancroft.

All individuals aged 18 or older are now eligible to book through the provincial booking site at Ontario.ca/bookvaccine or by calling 1-833-943-3900. If no clinics are available (greyed out on calendar), check back regularly.

Beginning on May 31, Belleville will be hosting COVID-19 vaccination clinics at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre (QSWC) in the Family Dental Centre (FDC) Arena. Depending on vaccine allocation, some 2,500 vaccines could be administered at this new clinic.

Children ages 12-17 years of age are to be eligible to book through the provincial system at Ontario.ca/bookvaccine starting May 31 and HPEPH is currently working with local school boards to establish additional vaccination opportunities for local students.

MAY 18: Five new COVID-19 cases were recorded, along with 11 recoveries, bringing the active case load in Hastings Prince Edward to 55.

The new cases include two each in Quinte West and Centre Hastings and one in Belleville. The 55 cases are recorded as: 17 in Belleville, 16 in Centre Hastings, 14 in Quinte West, five in Prince Edward County, two in Deseronto and one in North Hastings.

There are 14 people in hospital, six in ICU and five using a ventilator.

Outbreaks have been reduced to five with the Belleville hospital ICU outbreak involving three cases, declared over. The BGH unit 5 outbreak continues, affecting 28 cases. The remainder, in Belleville, Centre and North Hastings, affect 17 cases.

MAY 17: The health unit dashboard reports 15 new cases and six recoveries bringing the number of active cases up to 62.

Nine of the new cases are in Central Hastings with three in Quinte West, two in Belleville and one in Deseronto.

There are 14 people hospitalized with six in intensive care and five using ventilators.

There are now 21 cases in Belleville, 16 in Central Hastings, 15 in Quinte West, five in Prince Edward County, three in North Hastings and two in Deseronto.

MAY 16: Two new COVID-19 cases and 12 recoveries drop Hastings Prince Edward active cases to 53.

The two new cases were in Prince Edward County and Quinte West. The active cases now include 23 in Belleville, 13 in Quinte West, eight in Centre Hastings, five in Prince Edward County, three in North Hastings and one in Deseronto.

There are 14 people in hospital (not all HPE residents), six in ICU and five using a ventilator.

Six outbreaks remain active including the Belleville General Hospital Quinte 5 unit affecting 27 cases and the remainder, 20 cases.

MAY 15: Nine new cases and 14 recoveries puts the active number of Hastings Prince Edward COVID-19 cases down to 63.

The new cases include four in Belleville and one each in Quinte West, Prince Edward County, Centre and North Hastings.

The 63 active cases include: 28 in Belleville, 13 in Quinte West, eight in Centre Hastings, six each in North Hastings and Prince Edward County, and two in Deseronto.

There are 15 people in hospital, six in the ICU and five using ventilators.

Six outbreaks remain. Today, Hastings Prince Edward Public Health issued a potential low-risk COVID-19 exposure for Trenton McDonalds restaurant on Dundas Street for those who went there the afternoon/evening of May 12. An individual who was at the restaurant on this date has tested positive for COVID-19.

Vaccinations of HPE residents have reached 40 per cent, with 67,478 having received a first dose.

MAY 14: Five new COVID-19 cases and 15 recoveries drops the active case load in Hastings Prince Edward to 68 cases.

The new cases include one each in Prince Edward County, Centre Hastings and North Hastings and two in Quinte West. The active cases include 31 in Belleville, 13 in Quinte West, 10 in Centre Hastings, six in Prince Edward County and in North Hastings.

Six outbreaks continue. There are 17 people in hospital (not all HPE residents), seven in ICU and five using a ventilator.

There are 66,464 HPE residents who have received a first vaccine – or about 39 per cent. Three per cent, or 5,216 HPE residents are fully vaccinated.

MAY 13: As the province extends its stay-at-home order to June 2, Hastings Prince Edward sees one new COVID-19 case reported, in Belleville, and six recoveries, for a total of 78 active cases.

The active cases include 39 in Belleville, 14 in Quinte West, 10 in Centre Hastings, eight in North Hastings, five in Prince Edward County and two in Deseronto.

MAY 12: Eight new COVID-19 reports were recorded on the Hastings Prince Edward Public Health dashboard. With five recoveries, active cases rise to 83.

The new cases include five in Belleville, two in North Hastings and one in Quinte West. The active cases include 40 in Belleville, 15 in Quinte West, 11 in Centre Hastings, eight in North Hastings, seven in Prince Edward County and two in Deseronto.

Outbreak cases are now at six – in Belleville (26 cases realted to BGH Quinte 5); a community outbreak affecting 11 cases from several households in North Hastings; a workplace outbreak with three cases in Centre Hastings, and ongoing outbreaks in Belleville affecting 10 cases.

Customers who visited Tim Hortons in Picton on May 3, 4, 8 or 9, (including drive through customers) are advised they may have had a low risk exposure to COVID-19. Tim Hortons in Picton has also closed temporarily to ensure any impacted areas are sanitized. MAY 11: Ten new COVID-19 cases recorded in Hastings Prince Edward – five in Belleville, three in Quinte West, and one each in Deseronto and Centre Hastings.

With 11 recoveries, there are 80 active cases: 40 in Belleville, 15 in Quinte West, 11 in Centre Hastings, six each in Prince Edward County and North Hastings and two in Deseronto.

A new outbreak recorded May 7 in Centre Hastings brings outbreaks to seven in the region, affecting 17 cases and 25 cases with the Belleville General Hospital Quinte 5 Unit.

MAY 10: Hastings Prince Edward Public Health is again reporting seven new cases of COVID-19 and seven recoveries, leaving 81 active cases.

The new cases include one in Prince Edward County, and two each in Centre Hastings, Quinte West and Belleville. Of all active cases, there are now 41 in Belleville, 13 in Quinte West, 12 in Centre Hastings, eight in North Hastings, six in PEC and one in Deseronto.

There are 18 people in hospital – eight are in the ICU and six people are using ventilators.

There are six outbreaks active with 21 cases related to the Belleville General Hospital Quinte 5 unit, and 13 other cases related to outbreaks in Belleville.

As vaccinations are set to open up again in the coming weeks, 62,145 HPE residents have received a first dose – or 37 per cent of the population.

MAY 9: Seven new cases and seven recoveries keep the active case load at 81.

The new cases include three in Centre Hastings, two in Belleville and one each in Quinte West and Prince Edward County.

There are 18 people in hospital, (not all HPE residents), seven in hospital, seven using a ventilator.

A new outbreak classified in school/childcare in Belleville makes seven outbreaks in the region. The outbreak at Belleville General affects 21 cases, the remainder, 25 cases.

MAY 8: There were 17 new COVID-19 cases recorded – bringing the cases tallies since the pandemic began to 1,004. With 10 recoveries there are now 81 active cases.

Nine new cases were in Belleville, three each in Centre and North Hastings and two in Quinte West.

MAY 7: Nine new COVID-19 cases reported in the region – three each in Belleville and North Hastings and one each in Prince Edward County, Quinte West and Centre Hastings.

With eight recoveries, the active case load in Hastings Prince Edward remains at 75 – showing 42 in Belleville, 13 in Quinte West, eight in Prince Edward County, six in Centre Hastings, five in North Hastings and one in Deseronto.

Seven outbreaks continue, including 20 cases at Belleville hospital’s Quinte 5 unit, and three in its ICU. The remaining outbreaks in Belleville and Prince Edward County, affect 21 cases.

Since the pandemic began last March, there have been 988 cases recorded: 479 in Belleville, 248 in Quinte West, 97 in Prince Edward County, 73 in Centre Hastings, 43 in Deseronto, 37 in North Hastings and 11 in Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory. Ten deaths have been related to COVID-19.

With vaccine supplies expected to ramp up in the coming weeks, 61,166 HPE residents have received a first dose – about 36 per cent of the population.

MAY 6: Hastings Prince Edward Public Health recorded 12 new COVID-19 cases – eight in Belleville, three in Centre Hastings and one in Quinte West.

With eight recoveries, there are now 75 active cases: 44 in Belleville, 13 in Quinte West, nine in Prince Edward County, six in Centre Hastings, two in North Hastings and one in Deseronto.

There are 16 people in hospital, six in ICU and six using ventilators (not all HPEC residents).

There have been 980 cases since the pandemic began last March. There have been 342 variants of concern recorded this year.

Six outbreaks continue, affecting 42 cases in Belleville, Quinte West and Prince Edward County.

HPEPH reports 36 per cent of the region’s population has received a first dose of vaccination (60,153 residents).

MAY 5: One death related to the COVID-19 pandemic was recorded in the region by Hastings Prince Edward Public Health Wednesday, bringing the total deaths since last year to 10.

The HPEPH dashboard recorded 11 new cases – seven in Belleville and two each in North Hastings and Prince Edward County. With 10 recoveries, total active cases are at 72.

Another outbreak has been reported at the Quinte Healthcare Belleville ICU affecting three people. There are now seven outbreaks affecting 38 cases. The Belleville hospital Quinte Unit 5 outbreak continues with 16 cases. Outbreaks at the five other locations in Belleville, Quinte West and PEC continue.

The 72 active cases include 43 in Belleville, 11 each in Prince Edward County and Quinte West, three each in Centre and North Hastings and one in Deseronto. There are 15 people in hospital, seven in ICU and six using ventilators.

Dr. Ethan Toumishey, Medical Resident, updated the local board of health on local COVID-19 case rates today, and advised that since reaching a peak in cases in early April, with more than 160 active cases in a single day, HPEPH case rates are slowly improving.

He credited tireless efforts of the community to adhere to public health measures, the work of HPEPH case and contact management staff, as well the provincial stay-at-home order for the decline in cases.

While case counts have decreased locally and provincially, Dr. Toumishey cautioned the virus continues to circulate in the community and the risk of COVID-19 remains high.

“In order to protect our progress and avoid another spike in local rates, the community must remain vigilant. To avoid potential spread of illness, avoid non-essential contact with anyone outside your household,” said Dr. Toumishey.”

Dr. Piotr Oglaza, Medical Officer of Health and CEO, reported that 36 per cent of HPEC residents have now received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine – 57,538 with their first dose of vaccine and 4,098 with their second dose.

He told the board that vaccination rollout will be ramping up in the May due to a stable and reliable increase in vaccine supply.

Dr. Oglaza urged patience from all those who are eligible and stressed that while the province has expanded eligibility to book appointments, HPEPH can only administer the amount of vaccines received each week.

“Unfortunately, this means that being eligible to book does not guarantee that an appointment will be available right away,” he said, encouraging eligible residents to continue checking Ontario.ca/bookvaccine as new clinic dates are added frequently.

Beginning tomorrow, booking eligibility for COVID-19 vaccination appointments in HPEC is expanding to ages 50-plus. Eligibility through pharmacies for the vaccines is 40+.

In addition to groups that are already eligible, the following groups will be eligible to book COVID-19 vaccination appointments at ontario.ca/bookvaccine:
Individuals turning 50 and over in 2021;
Individuals with high-risk health conditions;
First Nations, Inuit and Métis individuals (in addition to the other channels previously available to book their appointment);
People who cannot work from home who fall under Group One, which includes:
Agriculture and farm workers
Education workers in elementary and secondary schools
Enforcement, inspection and compliance roles (by-law enforcement, building inspectors, food inspectors, border inspection officers, labour inspectors, and WSIB field workers)
Foster care agency workers (including customary care providers)
Food manufacturing and distribution workers
Funeral, crematory, and cemetery workers
Workers responding to critical events (police, fire, special constables, children’s aid society workers, infrastructure restoration workers)
Priority groups previously required to book by phone.

MAY 4: There were 15 new COVID-19 cases recorded in Hastings Prince Edward – eight in Belleville, four in Quinte West and two in Prince Edward County.

With 10 recoveries, the total active cases rises to 72. Cases include 42 in Belleville, 14 in Quinte West, 11 in Prince Edward County, three in Centre Hastings and one each in Deseronto and North Hastings.

There are 18 people in hospital (not all HPEC residents); seven in ICU and six using a ventilator. Six outbreaks continue in Belleville, Quinte West and PEC. The outbreak at Belleville’s hospital includes 17 cases; the remainder of the outbreaks account for 19 cases.

MAY 3: Two new COVID-19 cases were reported in Belleville. With 20 recoveries, the active case load drops to 68.

The active cases include 42 in Belleville, 13 in Quinte West, nine in Prince Edward County, three in Centre Hastings and one in Deseronto.

There are 19 people in hospital, nine in ICU and four using a ventilator. (Not all patients from this region).

There are now six outbreaks – four in Belleville and one each in Quinte West and Prince Edward County, totalling 33 cases.

MAY 2 – Four new COVID-19 cases were reported, along with three recoveries for an active case load of 85.

Three of the new cases are in Belleville, one in Quinte West. Of the active cases, 49 are in Belleville, 18 in Quinte West, 10 in Prince Edward County, five in Centre Hastings, two in Deseronto and one in North Hastings. Five ongoing outbreaks in Belleville, Quinte West and PEC affect 25 cases.

There are 19 people in hospital, nine in ICU and one on a ventilator.

MAY 1 – Hastings Prince Edward Public Health dashboard  has recorded eight new COVID-19 cases – four in Belleville, two in Quinte West and one each in Prince Edward County and Centre Hastings.

A new outbreak has been declared in a school/childcare facility in Quinte West, with one case. Five other outbreaks continue – in Belleville and Prince Edward County – affecting 27 cases.

There are now 84 active cases – 47 in Belleville, 18 in Quinte West, 11 in Prince Edward County, five in Centre Hastings, two in Deseronto and one in North Hastings.

There are 20 people hospitalized, nine in ICU and three on ventilators. Not all cases are residents from the region.

There have been 56,566 residents in the region vaccinated with their first dose – about 34 per cent of the population. There are 4,047 HPEC residents, about two per cent, who have received their second vaccination.

HPE Public Health is asking residents to be patient.

While the province has lowered eligibility for booking vaccines to individuals 55 and older, HPEPH states it can only administer the amount of vaccines received in the region each week. (Eligibility through pharmacies for the vaccines is 40+)

“Unfortunately, this means that being eligible to book does not guarantee that an appointment will be available right away. It is anticipated that local supply will increase near the end of May, and HPEPH will be able to offer more appointments each week.”

Eligible individuals are encouraged to continue checking Ontario.ca/bookvaccine as new clinic dates are added frequently. Certain individuals in the highest risk priority groups are eligible to register on HPEPH’s standby list, if you are unable to access an appointment.
