One COVID-19 death over weekend; data changes to total count

JAN. 31 – One death related to COVID-19 has been recorded over the weekend by Hasting Prince Edward Public Health. The number of deaths recorded has been reduced to 33, from 36 recorded Friday.

HPEPH states on the dashboard that “deaths that are unrelated to COVID-19 are not included in the death count on the HPEPH COVID-19 Dashboard. Cause of death is not always known at time of reporting. As such, the count of deaths is subject to change as cause of death data becomes available.”

There are three more people in hospital, now 16 people, two of which are in intensive care.

There were 100 new high-risk cases and with recoveries, 343 active high-risk cases ongoing and 15 outbreaks.

As restrictions to social gatherings, in-person dining and settings begin to ease today, the province is recording fewer deaths and a significant drop in hospitalizations.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced today he has tested positive for COVID-19, though “feeling fine” and would continue working from home. He has been in isolation since one of his children also tested positive for the virus late last week. He had received his booster vaccine earlier this month.

JAN. 28 – While cases are down from Wednesday’s report, two more deaths related to COVID-19 have been recorded by Hastings Prince Edward Public Health. There are 13 people in hospital due to the virus – four in intensive care. There have been 17 deaths related to COVID-19 recorded this month of 36 over the past two years of the pandemic.

There are 122 new high-risk cases reported for a total of 397 active high-risk cases. One more outbreak has been resolved, leaving 18 high-risk setting outbreaks ongoing.

JAN. 26 – Three more deaths in the region have been recorded by Hastings Prince Edward Public Health related to COVID-19, for a total of 15 this month, and 34 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Hospitalizations are down by three, to 15 – four people are in intensive care.

There were 130 high-risk cases recorded since Monday but the active case load has dropped to 535, from 656. There are now 19 high-risk outbreaks being recorded, down from 21 on Monday.

JAN. 24: Hospitalizations and COVID-19 high-risk case counts have dropped over the weekend in the region.

Hastings Prince Edward Public Health reports 103 new high-risk cases over the weekend for a total of 656 high-risk cases, down from 705 reported Friday.

There are 17 people in hospital related to the virus, four in intensive care; both numbers down from Friday’s 33 hospitalizations and six in ICU.

The region’s 21 high-risk outbreaks continue.

Vaccine clinics in Picton, Belleville and Batawa are now accepting walk-ins, as well as booked appointments.

Clinics at Prince Edward Community Centre will accept walk-ins for all eligible individuals aged 12 and over. Children aged 5-11 must book an appointment.

JAN. 21 – Hastings Prince Edward Public Health’s update has recorded three more deaths related to COVID-19 – the 12th this month, and 31st throughout the entire pandemic.

There are 33 people in hospital, six in intensive care.

There were 111 new high-risk cases recorded since Wednesday, and with recoveries, the active high-risk case load has dropped to 705. There is one more high-risk outbreak recorded in Belleville, bringing the total to 21.

The dashboard records that 46 per cent of the region’s population (79,905) has received a booster dose; 56 per cent over age 18; 52 per cent over age 12 and 48 per cent over age five.

Walk-in clinics for people ages 12+ are welcome at vaccine clinics at the Prince Edward Community Centre (375 Picton Main Street).

Clinics for first or second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, or a third dose, if they qualify are being held:
Monday, Jan. 24 – 1-7 pm
Thursday, Jan. 27 – 10 am-4pm
Monday, Jan. 31 – 1-7pm

Walk-ins should arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the end of the scheduled clinic and should bring their Ontario health card.

JAN. 19 – Hastings Prince Edward Public Health’s update has recorded four deaths related to COVID-19; a total of nine this month, and 28 throughout the pandemic.

There are four fewer people in hospital, at 35, and one fewer in intensive care, at seven.

There were 87 new high-risk cases recorded since Monday. The active high-risk case load has dropped more than 500 cases, now down to 848. There are also five fewer high-risk outbreaks, with 20 continuing in the region.

JAN. 17 – Hastings Prince Edward Public Health reports three more people were admitted to hospital related to COVID-19 over the weekend. There are now 39 people in hospital, eight in intensive care.

One new high-risk outbreak was recorded at Belleville hospital, for a total now of 25 active high-risk setting outbreaks.

There were 167 new high-risk cases reported over the weekend.

Due to extreme snowfall, local vaccination clinics have been cancelled.

JAN. 14 – Hastings Prince Edward Public Health has reported a fifth death related to COVID-19 this month – the 24th since the pandemic began.

There are now 36 people in local hospitals, eight in intensive care.

The HPEPH dashboard also reports five new outbreaks in high-risk settings (including three reported Jan. 12 in staff at H.J. McFarland Memorial Home) as part of the 24 active outbreaks. There are 158 new high-risk cases reported today, and 1,375 active high-risk cases.

More than 7,000 more people have received booster shots this week with HPEPH recording 75,121 residents have received a third dose of the vaccine.

HPEPH now updates high-risk case information only, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The next walk-in (no appointment) clinic at the Prince Edward County Community Centre (Picton arena) is Monday, Jan. 17 from 1 – 7 p.m. To manage demand and ensure people do not have to wait outside in the cold, walk-in spaces are available based on the following criteria:
-Individuals 50 years of age or older who are seeking a booster dose
– Anyone under the age of 50 looking for their first, second, or third dose if they qualify
Health-care workers
Education and childcare workers
If you are looking to get your vaccine without an appointment, please arrive no later than 30 minutes before the clinic is scheduled to end.

Anyone 12 years of age or older can book an appointment for any of the Picton vaccination clinics through the online provincial portal or by calling the Provincial Vaccine Contact Centre at 1.833.943.3900.

JAN. 12 – Hastings Prince Edward Public Health has recorded another death related to COVID-19; four more people in hospital, one more in intensive care. There are now 33 people in hospital, nine in ICU. The total deaths related to COVID-19 over the pandemic now total 23. Four of the deaths have been recorded this month.

In a media briefing last week, Quinte Health Care CEO Stacey Daub said QHC projects the Omicron variant wave to peak mid-January, but hospital capacity remains serious. She noted then that 19 of 20 patients who died since the pandemic began, were not vaccinated.

There are 194 new high-risk cases bringing the total active cases up to 1,318. There are 19 institutional outbreaks ongoing.

HPE Public Health states 68,097 residents have received a third dose booster vaccine – 39 per cent of the population (47 per cent of residents over age 18; 44 per cent of residents over age 12 and 41 per cent of residents over age 5).

It notes 76 per cent of the population has received two vaccines and 83 per cent has received one vaccine.

Hastings and Prince Edward Public Health has announced new walk-in and appointment clinics for people who want their first, second dose or booster COVID-19 vaccine. HPEPH vaccination clinics will offer Moderna vaccine to individuals aged 30+. Pfizer vaccine will be offered to individuals aged 12-29. The Paediatric Pfizer vaccine will be offered to children aged 5-11.
