Boardwalk Beauty is the Peoples’ Choice

Boardwalk Beauty, by Wellington artist Pamela Carter has been chosen as this year’s Peoples’ Choice Award.

Her oil on canvas received the most votes from visitors during the 17-day Art in the County exhibition and sale. Carter was delighted with her win and shared her story behind the 36×24-inch painting.

“My model was a visitor walking along Wellington’s boardwalk. She had come to the County to see her boyfriend. I loaned her my hat and scarf for the shoot, she handed them back, thanked me, and went off to meet her boyfriend. No name, and I never saw her again,” said Carter.

Carter has captured on canvas many of the villages, farm fields and street scenes in a warm, rich and evocative style working from her home gallery.

Collecting and counting the ballots over the 17-day run of the show was awards committee member Peni Patrick.

“One of the great things which became very evident with each day passing, was that people really enjoyed this years’ exhibition with almost every piece of work receiving votes,” she said.

At the show’s opening, Terry Culbert, chair of the event, presented the Jurors’ award winners of $100 each, to:

-Ray Dearborn, for Federal-style side table, Wood
-SaraLouise Miller, for Forest Nymph Warrior Chic, wearable, Textile Construction / Handmade Bronze and Copper
-W. Hew Elcock, for Study for Beaver Dam, Pencil on Paper.

Honorable mentions ($50 prize) were presented to:
-David Scott, for Bread Clock #2, Stoneware
-Claire van Eeghen, for Unseen, Stone Lithograph
-Celia Sage, for Art and Music, Oil on Canvas
-Pauline Dinham, for Surf’s up, Acrylic
-Florence Chik-Lau, for Quartet, Clay Sculpture on Wood

The new Otto Rogers Selection Award of $300 for achievement in the discipline of pictorial art, selected by Rogers, Canadian abstract painter and resident of the County, was presented to Tracy Douglas, for Tattoo, oil on canvas.
