Old-fashioned fun at site of Sandbanks’ grand lodge

Lakeshore-Lodge-new-signsThe Friends of the Sandbanks welcomed families to the famous Lakeshore Lodge property last week for a day of old-fashioned fun.

The Sandbanks area boasted many lodges over the years, through Lakeshore was the largest and operated for the longest period of time.

Lakeshore Lodge was advertised as “a first-class hotel overlooking the finest sandhills in the world”. It had eight owners during its operation and attracted one milion visitors. Locals and tourists knew it as a “grand hotel” which offered the best in accommodations, food and activities.

Activities at the lodge included swimming, dancing, fishing, hunting, bowling, billiards, sports, boating, horse races and riding.

Museums of Prince Edward County staff provided information, displays and fun old-fashioned games for children.

The Friends provided corn and ambassadors dressed to offer games, tours and information. They also showed off the new Lakeshore Lodge signs purchased by the Friends group. Blaine Way offered horse drawn wagon rides around the park.
