84 calls for OPP on the weekend – one driver stopped twice

Prince Edward County OPP officers responded to 84 calls for service this past weekend.

Connor Durkin, Community Safety Officer reports the types of investigations included domestic disturbances, Liquor Licence Act calls, noise complaints, traffic complaints, enforcement and motor vehicle accidents. RIDE checks and bar patrols were also conducted throughout the community.

Of interest, at approximately 2:22a.m. on July 25th, an 18-year-old male was involved in two separate traffic incidents. The man was stopped by officers on Ontario Street in Picton, where it was determined he was a G1 driver, and was not accompanied by a qualified driver. He was issued a Provincial Offence Notice, and then several minutes later, was observed by the same officers driving another vehicle.

Officers attempted a second stop, but the driver failed to stop for the officers when he was signalled to do so, then collided with a stop sign. He was charged with Failing to Stop, Careless Driving, and Being an Unaccompanied Driver under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario. He was issued a summons with an appearance date of August 19th, 2016 in the Provincial Court of Justice in Picton.
