Alison Kelly to be acclaimed NDP candidate

New Democrats in the Bay of Quinte have announced they will acclaim Alison Kelly as the NDP candidate for the 2022 provincial election at a meeting Monday evening.
At a virtual media conference Monday afternoon, NDP Deputy Leader John Vanthof said he’s glad to welcome Kelly to the NDP family, switching from the Liberal Party as she did not approve of the choice of Steven Del Duca as leader.
“It’s equally exciting for New Democrats, and for local families, to have a strong and experienced community advocate like Alison on the ballot in Bay of Quinte… Ontario’s New Democrats are proposing a positive vision for the province that includes getting the profits out of long-term care, investing in homes people can afford, and taking bold action to tackle the climate crisis.”
“People in the Bay of Quinte deserve so much better than we’ve all been getting,” said Kelly. “Kids in school deserve more help and support instead of teacher and education worker layoffs. We need to treat health care and mental health like people’s lives depend on it. Families and local businesses need access to affordable, reliable Internet. New Democrats will give people hope for the kind of future they deserve in Bay of Quinte and across Ontario — one with more opportunity, more affordability, and more hope.”
A project manager by profession, Kelly is a school board trustee for Hastings and Prince Edward District, South Prince Edward. There she has advocated for anti-racism policy, free menstrual products and Black History Month, Indigenous History Month and Pride Month celebrations at local schools
Kelly also sits on the County’s Accessibility Advisory Committee and volunteers as a radio deejay.
Kelly spent part of her youth in Belleville and is now raising her family in Prince Edward County.
The run for Bay of Quinte Conservative MPP Todd Smith’s job also includes Emilie Leneveu, nominated last November, to stand for the Liberal party. She is an entrepreneur and advanced biotechnologist.

I’m looking forward to the young Liberal candidate taking the riding. She seems very smart and extremely personable. It’s time for the younger generation to replace the old guard and work to save the environment. I think too many see it as a good paying job with no care for protecting the future for our grandchildren. They’re only in it for themselves.
An NDP government is required to change the objectives to people’s issues being paramount, instead of corporate interest and 1 percents, perhaps the best example might be getting the profit motive and private ownership out of LTC. Instead of tolerating 80 % of Covid fatalities occurring in LTC, proper management that restores intended levels of care and dignity to that population.
Instead of accepting government funds intended to increase the paltry wage paid to PCW’s,, increased dividends were issued to shareholders. PCW’s jobs need to be full time at appropriate levels with benefits and all workers need paid sick leave. The Ford conservatives have convincingly demonstrated that This and so much more that cries out for reform clearly won’t happen left to them. The obvious choice for a government whose focus is and always has been on we working folks and creating the conditions for us to prosper and build back our robust society
Alison Kelly has the instincts for what is important for the ordinary citizen in our riding.
Both the PC’s and Liberals have become political hornets’ nests with their internal in-fighting. They have forgotten about driving the issues that are truly important to society. Alison can bring the focus back to the important issues.
Todd Smith is very nice but he has catered too much to Premier Ford’s narrow political agenda. This has not served the ordinary citizen.
Due to health reasons, it is time for the current government to go; the people are sick of them!
