Picton’s Regent Theatre will honour the late blues icon Johnny Winter, in an all-star Canadian tribute show next Wednesday.
Known as one of the world’s finest guitarists, Winter, 70, died suddenly July 16, after a show in Switzerland. He was to perform at the Regent next week – a return visit from a sold-out 2011 show.
“The love and respect for Johnny Winter is unsurpassed. The musicians that are coming forward to pay tribute for Johnny is truly astounding and humbling – some of the best in Canada and even one of Johnny Winter’s original band members from the late 70s, slide guitarist extraordinaire Pat Rush,” said the Regent’s Craig McMillan. “Pat will also bring one of Johnny’s original Firebird guitars.”
In the line-up is a list of Juno Award Winning artists, International Blues Award Winning artists, Maple Blues Award Winning Artists, in short, some of the best in Canada including Jimmy Bowskill and The Barnburners, Paul Deslauriers, Rick Fines, David Gogo, Steve Strongman, The 24th Street Wailers and Pat Rush.
