Anonymous donor will double donation love for the library

Showing their Love for the Library with a $5,000 donation are Scott and Wendy Lavender and their sons, with Devon Jones, library board chair, and Alexandra Bake, its fundraising chair.

An anonymous donor has put out a holiday matching campaign ‘Give Your Heart to the Library’ where every dollar donated will be doubled, up to 100k, for the Picton branch’s restoration and expansion.

The goal is to raise $100,000, which will generate $200,000 to this campaign, ending Dec. 31. The campaign seeks donation in your name, and suggests surprising a loved one this holiday season by donating a gift in their name.

“I am constantly humbled by the generosity of this amazing community that we live in”, said Fundraising Chair Alexandra Bake, “and never more so than at this time. The offer of $100,000 in matched funding will help ensure that our library expansion moves ahead very soon. I challenge our community to be as generous as they can this Christmas season, so that we can raise the full $200,000!”

To date $2,050,000 of the $2,800,000 fundraising goal has been raised. The goal is to get shovels in the ground as soon as possible to get library renovation and expansion under way.

The Picton library has been serving the community for 112 years.

The renovation will double the current library space without impacting its historic features, and will feature an enlarged children’s area, flexible quiet workspaces and meeting rooms, accessibility improvements and an efficient environmentally conscious design. It will also include an expanded collection with more DVDs, books, CDs to share with all branches.

Donations can be made in many ways:
1. Email CEO Barbara Sweet:
2. Drop off a cheque at any County library branch
3. Donate online through the Canada Helps website, using the following library link:

A charitable receipt will be given for all donations over $20.
