Local residents are invited to help several community organizations and businesses to publicly thank Prince Edward County health care workers and help make them feel appreciated, and supported, as they battle the third wave in the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Apricot Ribbon Program is the work of the Rotary Club of Picton, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Wellington, the Picton Kiwanis Club, Picton Kinsmen, 99.3 County FM, Tim Hortons and Picton Home Hardware.

Starting at Quinte Health Care Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital, representatives on behalf of the Apricot Ribbon Program and the Rotary Club of Picton presented 113 staff working at the hospital with a letter of appreciation, thanking them for their dedication and tireless efforts, and a Tim Hortons gift card.

“We are indebted to the staff at our County hospital who have worked tirelessly to help keep our community safe and healthy during these challenging times” said John Clarke, president of Picton Rotary. “This small token of appreciation is our way of showing support for the stellar work of our health care teams. We thank all the health care workers who everyday are entrusted to providing care to our family, friends and neighbours.”

The Apricot Ribbon Program continues to unfold. Banners will be raised on Picton Main Street and at the Picton Community Centre. Apricot ribbons and signs are available for the public to tie on trees, poles, place on lawns, and buildings to symbolize support for staff impacted by COVID-19.

Apricot Ribbons can be picked up from Royal LePage, 104 Main St. in Picton, Picton Home Hardware
Wellington Home Hardware, and  Green Gables Gifts & Greetings in Bloomfield.

The public is encouraged to nominate or provide a testimonial to recognize health care workers in the County. Nominations can be made by contacting the Rotary Club of Picton at pictonrotary@gmail.com or though the club’s Facebook page, @PictonRotary. Please include the name of the person you are nominating, their place of work and a brief testimonial.
