Artists tamper with photographer’s work

Twenty-one artists have “tampered with” one of two of County photographer Peggy deWitt’s photographs. Their interpretations are on display until June 14 at her Paper Images Gallery, Elizabeth St., Picton.
deWitt’s photography, on permanent display at the gallery, captures the beauty of Prince Edward County. Over the years, her pictures have inspired many fellow artists. The “Tampered With” Art Show & Sale was conceived seven years ago when renowned local painter Ron Pickering asked if he could do a watercolour rendition of one of Peggy’s photographs. Because it is illegal — not to mention unethical — to copy someone else’s art (including photography) and call it your own, the “Tampered With” Art Show & Sale came into existence.
This year, the exhibition includes examples of acrylic, oil, watercolour, watercolour & ink, pointillism, digital, T-shirt, jewellery, sculpture, mixed media, fibre, metal and encaustic. The show provides everyone with an opportunity to be creative, to display their work in a gallery, to network with other artists, and most of all to have fun. The show and sale supports Bridging the Gap, an after school art program for underprivileged children the in Quinte area.
