Back of Hoard’s Station highlights rural life and relationships

Conrad Beaubien’s play ‘Back of Hoard’s Station’ begins its first of six shows tonight at Hillier Hall.
Starring local actors Rick Zimmerman and Anne Heathcote, it is directed by John Burns.
The play is a story of rural life, its rhythms, rituals and relationships. It is also an exploration of what it means to have family connections cut, and how these severances echo through to following generations.
Director Burns calls the play funny, quirky and deep. It features the Acadian musical talents of Elly Kelly with Brian Cosbey.
The April 25, 26 and May 2, 3 performances at 6:30 p.m. include dinner, while the April 27 performance is a lunch matinee in honour of the Hillier Women’s Institute’s 100th anniversary. The May 1 show is performance only. (See poster below)
The dinners are being prepared by Jane MacDonald of Fork in the Road Kitchen, with help from neighbour and chef Jamie Kennedy. Desserts will be out-of-the-oven fresh from Dan and Lori of Wickedly Sweet bakery in Wellington.

Everyone had a great time at Saturday evening’s sold-out performance of Conrad’s latest stage play.
Hillier Hall was set up café style for supper before the performance, with tasty food and wine supplied by local purveyors.
The play is indeed “funny, quirky and deep” (but not too deep), with outstanding acting and toe-tapping music. Conrad has a great ear for dialogue.
There really is a Hoard’s Station auction barn at RR#5 Campbellford, in operation since 1949, and Mr. Hoards was in attendance for Saturday’s performance.
This event, presented by the Station Roads Arts Collective and the Hillier Rec. Committee, is part of the initiative to reinvent Hillier Hall as a community-focused cultural centre.
You have three more opportunities to enjoy this 100% made-in-The County event — on the evenings of Thursday, May 1 through Saturday, May 3. Highly recommended.
