Bad Neighbours raunchy and goofy

I am not going to review the new Spiderman in any detail even though it’s a very good film, because I think there is an overwhelming sense of superhero fatigue.
There are a lot of great elements in that film and if you’re a fan of the series then sure, it works.
There’s a reason though that it isn’t performing up to expectations. You can’t call a  film that does 94 million on its opening weekend a bomb, but if you look at what it was expected to do, there’s no question it’s been a disappointment.
Too much.
I think it’s well done and if you are a huge fan you’ve probably already seen it.
It doesn’t help that the Tobey Maguire Spiderman is still fairly current.
This year’s model pays homage to the cartoon. It’s very campy and tongue-in-cheek.
I enjoyed it and recommend it, but I doubt I can mobilize the audience at this point.

And then there’s the new Seth Rogan movie. Bad Neighbours is as raunchy a film as he’s done recently.
Our story so far.
Mac Kelly and Stella Radner live lives of quiet resignation. They’re the most mature in their peer group and so they are constantly trying to do things that prove they aren’t past their prime. It usually involves some kind of freaky sex. The film has a lot of graphic dialogue about sex.
A lot.
Sometimes it feels crow-barred in. There is an expectation of a lot of bathroom humour.
A frat group moves in to the house next door. It’s interesting to see Rogan playing the grown up and the best part is when he tries to ingratiate himself into the frat boys’ trust in order to keep them quiet and sedate.
There is an innate understanding of men and boys in groups and that’s where most of the humour originates.

Rose Byrne is exceptional as Kelly Radner.  She’s the only real female lead and she’s needed. We have to smooth out these fellers.
There’s a lot of funny moments. Laugh out loud raunch. But at the end of the day it falls apart. It gets goofy
I lost interest and didn’t watch the end.
So there you go.
Sorry to say but I can’t suggest you watch this.
It’ll make a good rental. Maybe.
As always, other opinions are welcome, but wrong. That’s it for this week. The cheque’s in the mail and I’m outta here. Paul
