John Ferguson, club secretary, notes the club had been located on Victoria Road in the County for more than 30 years but had to move when the property owner decided to use the land for another purpose.

Among about 60 members are many former former military men who love aviation.

The Club’s web site notes the origins of the club date back to 1932 when the first enthusiasts gathered. By 1945 the club was officially formed and members operated free-flight, rubberband-powered aircraft. Members flew at the Deseronto and Picton airports in the 50s.

In the 70s a small group of remote control flyers secured permission to fly just southeast of the Mountainview airport. Looking for a more permanent location, they moved to Victoria Road.

They are well known for their annual Jet Rally events held at Mountainview that attracted flyers and aircraft from across North America. The rallies ended in 2007.

Today, visitors are welcome seven days a week beginning at 9 a.m. at 320 Stinson Block Road. Float flying is carried out just northeast of Belleville.

Club members attend from the County, Quinte West and Belleville and area have been flying at the new location for the past couple of months.

Members provide assistance and guidance in different aspects of the hobby. New pilots progress at their own pace.

Visit the club web site at BQAC.ca for further details and mark your calender for the next War Bird Fun Fly, set for Sept. 6.
