Bay of Quinte MP Neil Ellis will stand for third term

Neil Ellis, Bay of Quinte MP

MP Neil Ellis will stand for a third term as the Bay of Quinte Federal Liberal Association candidate.

Twice elected federal member of parliament, Ellis was first elected  in October 2015 and again in 2019. Prior to becoming MP, Ellis was mayor of the City of Belleville from 2006 – 2014.

During his first term he served as chair of the Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs for four years. Upon re-election in 2019, he was named Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food.

Drawing on his experience as a mayor, one of his key platforms has been to secure stable infrastructure funding for municipalities, key, he notes, to promote economic growth and improve quality of life for all constituents.

“It has been a honour to serve the Bay of Quinte over the last nearly six years as your representative,” said Ellis. “From working with constituents one-on-one, to bringing your concerns to Ottawa, together we have made every effort ensuring progress for our communities. I look forward to more opportunities to do that.”

Bay of Quinte riding president Susan O’Brien was thrilled Ellis will run again. The election would normally take place on or before October 2023. Speculation is mounting it could be sooner, though polls have found most Canadians think going to the polls during the COVID-19 pandemic would be unsafe and could create an unfair vote.

“Neil is a strong candidate who has always been there to help people.”

Ellis was born and raised in Belleville. He and his wife Susan have three children.
