Bay of Quinte youth launch ‘Spring Showers’ toiletries drive for foodbanks

Bay of Quinte MP Neil Ellis with members of the youth council.

Local youth will be collecting toiletries in a ‘Spring Showers’ drive to be donated to three local foodbanks.

MP Neil Ellis and the Bay of Quinte Youth Council introduce the community project Wednesday to make contributions to help support people in need.

“I am very happy with the Spring Showers idea that the Bay of Quinte Youth Council came up with,” said Ellis. “It is always tremendous to see our local youth wanting to make a difference, and that is exactly what this is all about. It is my hope that we can work together with the community to make a positive impact on those who need it most.”

The Bay of Quinte Youth Council is a group of local youth aged 15-24 who applied to be a part of the group as a chance to connect with MP Ellis, and work together on a variety of issues.

The project is posed as a challenge to the area’s 12 local high schools to collect as many items as students are able and willing to donate. The class that collects the most items will receive a prize.

Constituents are also invited to donate hygiene items to the initiative for the Wellington Storehouse Foodbank, Gleaners in Bellevile and the Trenton Care and Share Foodbank.

Constituents’ who would like to donate are encouraged to stop by any of the three drop-off locations listed below:
– 280 Main Street, Picton Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm at the PELA CFDC office
– 100 Station Street, Belleville Monday-Friday 9am-4:30pm inside the main entrance to the building; and Monday-Thursday after 4:30pm at No Limits Café at the back of the building
– 7 Creswell Drive, Quinte West Monday-Saturday 9:30am-4:00pm inside the Quinte West Public Library

Donations will be accepted from Tuesday, April 3rd until Tuesday, May 8th. Please note that donations must be new in the original, unopened packaging. Some examples of donations needed are: toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap (bars/liquid), shampoo/ conditioner, deodorant and baby products
