Bloomfield parking lot closed through Nov. 3 to prepare for new bus shelter and improvements

UPDATE: The closure of the parking lot located between 247 and 257 Bloomfield Main Street in Bloomfield has been extended until 3:30 pm on Thursday, Nov. 3.

The Bloomfield Main Street parking lot, near the post office, will be closed from 7 a.m. on Oct. 31 until 5 p.m. on Nov. 1 as crews will begin preparing to install a County Transit bus shelter and lights.

The shelter and lights are part of the Bloomfield parking lot improvement project and are expected to be received and installed in November.

No vehicles will be permitted to enter or park in the lot during the closure. There is free street parking in Bloomfield.

The municipality has received provincial funding to begin installing bus shelters in support of the County Transit system. The cost for budget year 2022 is $50,000, with $40,000 received from Ontario Community Transit. The remaining funds will be from the County’s capital sustainability reserve.

The shelter will be a five-foot by 10-foot structure on a concrete pad, located at the eastern entrance to the parking lot. The existing barrier curb will be removed. It will be lit and include a bench.

Further work will include re-configuring the parking spaces to ensure adequate width for three accessible parking spots, but maintaining the 22 existing spaces; repairing the fence and concrete walkway, installing an electrical service panel to power the bus shelter and to create capacity for future electric vehicle charging; and installing three overhead lights.

By 2035, all light-duty cars and trucks sold in Canada must be zero-emission. In response, the municipality is in early stages of developing a County-wide electric vehicle charging infrastructure plan. It is anticipated that the plan would provide for EV charging stations in public spaces and would support the electrification of the municipal vehicle fleet.
