Camp Picton – A storied 70 years

camp-pictonRead the story of  the landmark Camp Picton as told by the people who were there to author Joanne Courneya-Fralick.

Camp Picton: A Storied 70 Years of the historic Canadian Military Training Camp traces the former traning base’s history.

“While the book has the necessary facts and figures, the history comes to life through personal interviews and archived letters from the people who lived and worked at Camp Picton,” says Courneya-Fralick.

The stories begin with the earliest days of the camp when it began as a British Commonwealth Air Training Plan base.

“Former soldiers tell about their daily life on the base and about shooting practice over such Prince Edward County locations as Point Petre, Soup Harbor and Point Traverse,” said Courneya-Fralick. “Former teachers and students reminisce about their days living in the former Private Military Quarters on the hill. Post-1970 staff recollects their working days with the developmentally disabled at Prince Edward Heights.”

The book is available for order from friesenpress.com/bookstore and at Books and Company in Picton.

Joanne Courneya-Fralick is a journalist. She moved to Picton in 2009 with husband Martin, who collaborated on the book.
