Candidates pitch to gain $1,000 Awesome PEC grant

The newly formed Awesome Foundation of Prince Edward County is hosting its first Pitch Party, where one applicant for the group’s first grant applicants will be awarded $1000 to help realize their project.
Awesome PEC invited community members to apply with ideas “to make the County more awesome”. After receiving many worthy applications, the 10 trustees convened and selected five projects to be shortlisted.
These applicants are to make a short pitch to the trustees Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Athol Town Hall. The trustees will then decide who will be awarded the grant. The shortlisted projects are as follows:
DISLOYAL (PEC/DIY/SK8) – A two-day skateboard-making workshop for local teenagers.
The Hungry Shelf – The goal is to fill the libraries of PEC with 100 books covering a variety of culinary, farming, social, food issues for all ages.
Caen Court Clean-Up – A project focused on cleaning up the Heights with the help of willing residents of Caen Court.
Storage for Storehouse – The Storehouse Food Bank will rent a large storage unit to house donations of appliances and furniture so that they are readily available for families in need.
Crumbs in the Food Basket: Solving Rural Poverty – This project is a film documentary which will explore the issues of food security, rural poverty and the folks who are doing something about it.
“While all are great projects worthy of support, only one can be funded by Awesome PEC,” said Krista Dalby, a trustee. “However, it is our hope that by giving applicants a public forum to discuss their projects, some of the non-awarded projects may find other forms of backing, either through community connections, hands-on assistance or individual philanthropy.”
The next deadline to apply for a grant from Awesome PEC is November 1. Grants can be used for any type of project that benefits the County. Projects should be able to be completely accomplished for the $1,000 awarded.

Mike, that’s definitely a fantastic cause. However, these grants are not typical donations, but are intended to fund specific projects that can be completed or close to completed for the $1,000.

I think this money should be donated to the FOOD FOR LEARNING PROGRAM in PRINCE EDWARD COUNTY. This is a valuable asset for our children in the community to be able to have access to good nutrition to start their day of learning.
