Caring sisters canvass neighbourhood for hospital donations

Kayla and Megan with Anna Marie Ferguson, PECMH Foundation Executive Director.

Never underestimate a child’s desire to want to help those in need. When Kayla Paddison, age 8, knew her friend’s mom was sick in the hospital, she wanted to help her and others in the hospital.
With great enthusiasm, Kayla and her older sister Megan, 10, went to work collecting donations for the PECMH Foundation during the fall of 2011. Unbeknownst to their parents Mark and Karen, the girls rode their bikes up and down their road asking neighbours for donations for the hospital. It wasn’t until some of the neighbours called that Mark and Karen were made privy to what the girls had been doing.
Kayla and Megan, who live on the Burr Road in Ameliasburgh and attend Sophiasburgh Central School, collected $60 for the foundation, which will be directed toward the campaign for digital mammography and ultrasound equipment.
The Paddison’s family physician Dr. Blair Scrivens and Larry Matheson, president of the PECMH Foundation met with the girls and commended them on their hard work and initiative.
“It is just super to see young people like Kayla and Megan fundraising for our hospital. We are so proud of their efforts,” Matheson said.

Sisters Kayla age 8 and her older sister Megan 10 who rode their bikes in their neighbourhood to collect money for our PECMH FOUNDATION because their friend’s mother was ill in our local hospital are a true inspiration to me and hopefully to many others in the County. There are “givers and takers” in this life and Mark and Karen Paddison have raised two wonderful daughters who are “GIVERS”
