Carol McIntosh joins Hospice circle of outstanding volunteers

Carol McIntosh

Carol McIntosh has joined the June Callwood Circle of Outstanding Volunteers.

Hospice Prince Edward announce McIntosh as the 2020 recipient of award, which honours the late journalist, author and social activist who founded or co-founded more than 50 Canadian social action organizations.

Nominated by the hospices they serve, the volunteers exemplify the spirit and dedication of hospice palliative care, and are the driving force of the care provided each day throughout the province.

Carol began her volunteer service with Hospice Prince Edward in June 2013. She serves as a residential volunteer and also supports clients in the community.

“Her calm, compassionate, non-judgmental demeanor is evident to all who have the pleasure of knowing her,” said Melanie Dailey, Hospice Prince Edward’s Community Development Director. “She exemplifies generosity and kindness. There are countless examples of the ways in which Carol consistently extends herself above and beyond to help those in need.”

Dailey notes Carol’s selfless commitment to excellence at Hospice makes her a wonderful asset to the community, and the clear choice to be this year’s June Callwood Award recipient. Dailey notes Hospice PE looks forward to celebrating Carol and her accomplishments with all of the volunteers once it is safe to so, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The June Callwood Award was established in 1994 by the Hospice Association of Ontario (now known as Hospice Palliative Care Ontario,) to acknowledge and thank outstanding volunteers throughout Ontario.

Hospice Prince Edward is a charitable organization that provides quality of life, dignity in death and grief and bereavement support for all those living with, or affected by, a life limiting illness.

“Our residential hospice has served more than 300 residents since opening in 2013,” said Dailey, noting an additional 400 families have benefited from visiting volunteers, caregiver support groups, and grief and bereavement services.
