Caution advised as warmer weather makes thin ice

Rick Nelson captured this photo on Boxing Day of two people on West Lake, just off Sheba’s Island.

Following a few incidents involving thin ice during this warmer weather, police and fire rescue services are warning citizens to be aware of conditions.

Prince Edward County firefighters rescued a dog that fell through the ice on the Bay of Quinte near Rossmore Friday – with a happy ending.

There have also been calls from citizens throughout the region, worried about seeing people venture out onto ice that could be too thin in areas.

Daytime temperatures are expected to be above zero for the next few days – with a chance of freezing rain Sunday and Monday with flurries forecast for New Year’s.
